GTA 6, how to
How do conversations and interactions work in GTA 6?
Short answer
The Extended Look shows two systems the series has not had before. Dialogue choices: two options on two buttons at 0:59, RAYMOND? on square and SAN4SAN on L2. And prompts drawn on the world: KNOCK floating on a door at 2:14, HOLD HANDS on R2 as Jason and Lucia walk onto a terrace at 9:55, SLIM JIM and SMASH WINDOW on a car door. What any choice changes is in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V there was nothing to choose.

Where the footage shows it
The Extended Look is at its most revealing when the HUD does something small. A conversation with two answers on it. A verb drawn on a door. A button for holding somebody’s hand. None of those existed in the last game, and together they say more about how GTA 6 will feel to play than any car chase. This page collects them.
What the footage shows
At 0:59, in the lobby that opens the walkthrough, the bottom right of the screen carries two prompts stacked: RAYMOND? with the square glyph, SAN4SAN with L2. Two words that stand for two lines, on screen at the same time, which makes it a choice and not a single contextual action. What either leads to, the frame does not show; RAYMOND? reads as a name being asked about, and SAN4SAN resolves to nothing else in the material. The same stacked layout returns at 1:57 for the dog, with SCOLD, PET and STUDY on three buttons.
The other style sits on the world rather than in a corner. At 2:14 a triangle glyph and the word KNOCK float over the red door the player is facing, small and in world space. At 6:04 the same style puts two labels on a car door, SLIM JIM and SMASH WINDOW, and hands the player the choice between them. And at 9:55 Jason and Lucia walk up onto a roof terrace with their hands already joined and HOLD HANDS with an R2 glyph in the corner. The corner list is for choosing between things; the floating label is for the one thing in front of you.
What nobody knows
- What a dialogue choice changes: the line, the scene, the relationship, the mission.
- Whether choices are everywhere or only at set moments, and whether they are timed.
- Whether holding hands, and the other small interactions, feed anything, or are there to be done.
- Whether Lucia gets the same menus when she is the one being played.
How Grand Theft Auto V did it
This is the reference, not a prediction, and it is short. Grand Theft Auto V had no dialogue choices. Its conversations played out in cutscenes and in cars, and the GTA Wiki’s page on its dialogue is a catalogue of lines the characters say on their own: greetings, insults, driving talk. The player’s part was where to drive and whom to shoot. Interactions were single contextual actions on one button, and there was no way to hold anybody’s hand. Every one of the frames above is a first for the series.
What this page becomes on launch day
From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: what the choices change, where they appear, and which interactions matter, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
