GTA 6, how to
How do you start missions in GTA 6?
Short answer
The Extended Look opens inside a mission and never shows one being accepted. What it shows is the machinery around a mission: a dialogue choice on two buttons in a lobby at 0:59, a KNOCK prompt floating on a door at 2:14, a text mid-mission that names a target, and a route drawn on the minimap. No marker, no contact list and no mission title is in any frame. Until launch, the reference is how Grand Theft Auto V handed out its work.

Where the footage shows it
Rockstar has not named a single GTA 6 mission, and the Extended Look, which runs as one long stretch of play, never shows one being picked up. It does show what happens around a job: who you talk to, what you knock on, who texts you and where the map points. That is the frame for this page, and the missions section holds the rest of what is known.
What the footage shows
The Extended Look opens in the lobby of an apartment block, and at 0:59 the bottom right of the screen carries two prompts stacked: RAYMOND? on square and SAN4SAN on L2, a choice rather than a single contextual action, in front of a big man on the phone by a pair of red lift doors. At 2:14 a triangle glyph and the word KNOCK float over the red door the player is facing, drawn on the door itself rather than in a corner. Talking to people and knocking on doors is how the walkthrough moves; nothing in it is labelled as a mission starting.
Later, at 23:57, a text from Lucia arrives mid-mission as a card hanging in the world and names a target, Czr, who appears nowhere else in the material. And at 15:49 the minimap draws a pink route from the player’s arrow to a marker with the distance in feet, the ordinary way a game points you at the next thing. What the material never shows is a mission title, a list of contacts, a letter on the map or an accept button.
What nobody knows
- How a mission is offered: a marker on the map, a call, a text, a conversation, a door.
- Whether Jason and Lucia have separate missions, and whether one can be played as either.
- Whether missions are named, graded or replayable.
- Whether a mission can be quit or restarted mid-way, and what a failed one costs.
- What the dialogue choices change, if anything.
How Grand Theft Auto V did it
This is the reference, not a prediction. Grand Theft Auto V marked its missions on the map with a letter for the contact and started them by walking into the marker, and the GTA Wiki notes that Rockstar deliberately moved away from the constant phone calls of the game before, letting activities appear on the map instead. The phone still carried work: Hao’s street races and Ron’s off-road races each arrived by text message once the mission that unlocked them was done. A dialogue choice on two buttons, drawn in the corner, is something that game did not have at all; its conversations played out in cutscenes and in cars.
What this page becomes on launch day
From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: how each mission is offered, whether it can be replayed, what the dialogue choices do and how failing works, each with the date it was played. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
