How do you sell a car in GTA 6?

Every Grand Theft Auto fills your driveway with stolen cars and most of them give you nowhere to turn them into money. Whether GTA 6 changes that is one of the plainer launch-day questions, and the honest answer today is that nothing in the official material touches it.

What the footage shows

Cars change hands in the Extended Look, but only in one direction. At 6:04 a man leans into a parked coupe and is offered two ways to take it, a slim jim or a smashed window. At 26:06 a waterfront lot holds a row of wrapped and modified cars parked nose-out with people talking between them, which is what a market for cars looks like when nobody is trading. The weapon wheel at 17:50 carries two money balances, so money is counted; nothing in any frame shows it arriving from a car.

There is no garage, no sale screen, no dealer, no scrapyard and no price in any frame we hold. That is the complete evidence, and it is evidence of absence in a trailer, which is weak: a trailer would not show a sale even if the game had one on every corner.

What nobody knows

• Whether stolen cars can be sold at all, and where.
• Whether a car meet is a place to sell, buy or trade.
• Whether cars can be bought, and whether you own a garage to keep them in.
• Whether a car the police know about, the car icon in the wanted display, is harder to sell.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction, and here the reference is an absence. In Grand Theft Auto V’s story mode you could not sell a car. Los Santos Customs modified and resprayed them, and driving into one lost a wanted level if you had not been seen approaching, but the selling system belonged to GTA Online: there, according to the GTA Wiki, a stolen car worth under a certain amount could be sold once per in-game day for a tenth of its retail value, and anything above that line had to have been bought legally. If GTA 6 lets you sell what you steal in the story, it will be the first game in the series to do so.
