GTA 6, how to

How does the shooting range work in GTA 6?

Short answer

As a scored course, on the evidence of one frame. At 18:32 of the Extended Look a woman with a carbine stands at the mouth of a mock village, twelve silhouette targets behind steel plates, drums and sandbags, TARGETS REMAINING 7 / 12, a clock at 00:33.74 with a second clock at 00:30.000 under it, and HIT floating over the targets that go down. Where the range is, what the second clock is for and what a run earns are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V the range was at Ammu-Nation, cost $14 to enter and paid out in discounts.

A shooting range is where a game tells you how it wants you to shoot, and GTA 6’s is on screen for one frame of the Extended Look. This page is that frame, what it leaves open, and how the last game’s range worked.

What the footage shows

At 18:32.64 the shooter is a woman with her hair tied back, a carbine shouldered and a wooden-stocked rifle slung across her back, standing at the mouth of a courtyard. Ahead of her, silhouette targets stand behind low steel plates, oil drums, sandbags and pallets, spread across two sides of a square. The buildings are a set rather than a street: rendered walls in sand and dusty pink, blue shutters, arched doorways, a wooden pole carrying a single cable across the square, and nothing in it lived in. The shooting range page carries the crop.

The HUD makes it a challenge rather than a fight. TARGETS REMAINING reads 7 / 12 at the lower right, with a clock at 00:33.74 under it and a second clock reading 00:30.000 beneath that, and an ammunition counter with a rifle icon sits top right; all of that lies outside the crop, in the same frame, and the challenge HUD page reads it. What floats over the targets is the word HIT, twice, above the ones that have just been struck. Until 23 September 2026 this site put a TIME BONUS and a bonus for speed in that frame; neither is there.

So the shape is clear: twelve targets, a running time and a second time that is either a mark to beat or a bonus threshold, and a hit marker per target. What the range belongs to is not: the only gun shop the material names is Phil’s Ammu-Nation, in a television commercial at 2:11 of Trailer 2, and nothing links the two.

What nobody knows

  • Where the range is, and whether it belongs to a business.
  • Whether the twelve targets are fixed or vary per run.
  • What the second clock, 00:30.000, is the threshold for.
  • What a run earns: money, a discount or a skill.
  • Whether the weapons are your own or the range’s.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction. GTA V’s range lived in two Ammu-Nation branches, “one in Cypress Flats and the other in Pillbox Hill” in the GTA Wiki’s words, and entry cost $14. It ran six weapon classes, handguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, shotguns, light machine guns and heavy weapons, each with several challenges of static, moving or multi-hit targets, scored in bronze, silver and gold. The medals paid in discounts at the chain: “at least all Bronze Medals awarded – All items discounted 10%”, fifteen for silver, twenty-five for gold, and each protagonist had to earn their own. The railgun challenges did not count towards the discount, and Michael could use his slow-motion ability on the range. A countdown, a second clock and HIT markers are things that range did not draw.

What this page becomes on launch day

From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: where the range is, what a run costs and earns, and what the second clock means, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.

Where this comes from

Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
