How do nightclubs and bars work in GTA 6?

Vice City at night is half the reason the trailers exist, and the material is full of rooms with people in them. The question a guide has to answer is whether any of those rooms is yours to use, and that is precisely what a trailer never shows. Here is what the frames hold, and what the last game did with its one nightclub.

What the footage shows

At 1:39 of Trailer 2 the camera stands at the edge of a nightclub dance floor: thirty or more people dancing in pink and purple light, close together, in front of a lobby with lanterns and a red-lit doorway, a woman in a green sequined dress in the foreground with her back to the camera. On the wall behind, in large lit letters, is as much of the venue’s name as the frame holds, NINETI running off the right-hand edge, which is why the club has a page. A press screenshot from the Cal Hampton set is shot at table height across a bar pool table under magenta neon, a man leaning into the shot with the cue drawn back, Cal opposite with a can in his hand, a woman behind the rail with a live iguana over her shoulders. A cue mid-stroke is the giveaway that the table is meant to be played rather than passed.

The third frame is the quietest. At 9:55 of the Extended Look Jason and Lucia walk up onto a rooftop terrace bar from behind, hands already joined, with HOLD HANDS on R2 in the corner. The bar’s name is on the back wall in raised letters and does not read in that frame. Nothing in any of the three shows a drink being ordered, a dance being started, a door being paid for or a game of pool being scored.

What nobody knows

• Whether you can enter the club, dance, buy a drink, and whether drinking does anything.
• Whether pool is a full game with its own aiming, and whether money changes hands.
• Whether a club can be owned, as it could in GTA Online.
• Whether going out with the other lead is an activity with consequences, or a scene.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction. Grand Theft Auto V’s story mode had one venue you could actually use: the Vanilla Unicorn, a strip club where, according to the GTA Wiki, a private dance cost forty dollars in pocket cash and a drink ten, with a meter you filled by flirting and a bouncer who threw you out if you were caught touching the dancer three times. There was no nightclub to dance in and no bar to sit at; pool had been a bar game in San Andreas and in Grand Theft Auto IV, and the last game dropped it while keeping darts, golf and tennis. Nightclubs as a business you own arrived with GTA Online, years later. The dance floor and the pool table above are therefore either a return or a first, and the frames cannot say which.

What this page becomes on launch day
