Holding hands

The source frame, with Holding hands marked
Extended Look · snt-00166 · ~9:55.25 · usable frame

A button for holding someone's hand. HOLD HANDS, on R2, as Jason and Lucia walk onto a roof terrace together.

The Extended Look frame shows the two of them from behind and slightly below, walking up onto the terrace. Their hands are already joined. In the bottom right corner sits the prompt: HOLD HANDS, on R2 — a held button rather than a tap.

Behind them is the terrace bar, with Effluvia in gold on the back wall, a pergola and a pool.

It is a small thing and it is not a small thing. Grand Theft Auto has never had an affection input. A held button for walking hand in hand says the relationship between the two protagonists is something the game expects the player to participate in rather than only watch.

How to recognise it

  • The prompt reads HOLD HANDS, on R2
  • A held button, not a tap
  • Their hands are already joined in the frame
  • On the roof terrace of the bar whose name reads Effluvia
  • The first affection input in the series

The frame it comes from

The frame is Extended Look at ~9:55.25. It is 1920 by 1080, and the vehicle occupies 1421 by 540 of it.

What we still do not know

  • Whether either character can refuse
  • Whether it works with anyone or only between the protagonists
  • Whether it affects anything beyond the animation
  • Which other social inputs exist — SMOKE appears elsewhere
