Holding hands

The Extended Look frame, at 9:55, shows the two of them from behind on a paved roof terrace, facing two steps up to the bar’s wooden deck, their hands already joined. In the bottom right corner sits the prompt: HOLD HANDS, with an R2 glyph after it.

Whether the button is held or tapped is not something the frame says. The word hold belongs to the name of the action, not to the instruction, and this page read it the other way round until 20 September 2026.

Ahead of them is the terrace bar. Its name is on the back wall in raised letters, but it does not read here: two letters stand clear, a white column covers the next three, and the last three run on past it. In this light the letters are dark brown. Just over three seconds later, in gold, all eight separate, and that is where the name is read. Around the terrace: a pergola overhead hung with trailing plants, the city’s towers in the distance, and a narrow water channel along the seating with fountain jets playing in it and a broad pale rim, not a swimming pool.

It is a small thing and it is not a small thing. Neither GTA 4 nor GTA 5 had a button for this. A button for holding hands says the relationship between the two protagonists is something the game expects the player to take part in rather than only watch. R2 turns up again on the barbell in the gym.
