GTA 6, how to
How do you heal in GTA 6?
Short answer
One frame draws the whole system and none shows it in use. At 17:50 of the Extended Look, with the weapon wheel open, three meters sit top left, a heart in pink, a lightning bolt in cyan and an eye in lilac, and two consumables sit bottom left: a red pill bottle with a count of 2 and a pink heart on square, and an orange injector pen with a count of 2 and a gold heart on triangle. What either does, whether health regenerates and what a hospital costs are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V health came back to the halfway point on its own and the rest came from snacks and drinks.

Where the footage shows it
Nothing in the official material shows anybody healing. What one frame does show is the equipment for it, drawn in full on the weapon wheel screen. This page is that frame, what it does not settle, and how the last game handled health.
What the footage shows
At 17:50.60 of the Extended Look, with the weapon wheel open, the top left of the screen carries three meters: a heart in pink, a lightning bolt in cyan and an eye in lilac. Each bar is filled along its whole length and nothing is drawn behind it, so the frame says nothing about how full any of them is; what it does say is that the three have different lengths, the heart the longest and the eye the shortest, and that the heart alone carries a divider, a short dark bar near its left end. A health bar and a stamina bar are familiar. A meter marked with an eye is not, and nothing in the material says what it measures.
Bottom left sit two consumables with button prompts. A red pill bottle with a white label, a count of 2 and a pink heart in a plain dark circle, on square. An orange injector pen with a count of 2 and a gold heart inside a gold ring, on triangle. The pink heart is the colour of the health meter, which is the one link the screen draws between the bar and the bottle; the gold heart matches nothing else on the screen. Two counts of 2 say both are things you carry and use up.
That is the equipment. Whether health regenerates, how fast, whether the divider on the heart bar marks the point it regenerates to, what the pen does that the pills do not, and where either is bought are in no frame. No hospital, no medkit, no vending machine and no snack is in the material.
What nobody knows
- Whether health regenerates on its own, and whether the divider on the heart bar marks how far.
- What the pill bottle and the injector pen each do, and where they come from.
- What the eye meter measures.
- What dying costs, and where you come back.
- Whether body armour exists and where it would be drawn.
How Grand Theft Auto V did it
This is the reference, not a prediction. The GTA Wiki’s page on health says of GTA V: “Whenever the player takes damage and health drops below 50%, then they can automatically replenish lost health up to the halfway point but this can only be done if the player’s character stands still on the spot and doesn’t walk or run.” The rest came from what you bought or picked up: “drinks (Sprunk or eCola) purchased at vending machines spread throughout Los Santos and Blaine County, as well as snacks (such as P’s & Q’s, Meteorite, Egochaser, and eCola) which can be purchased at convenience stores”, plus items dropped by enemies. The health bar took the left half of the strip at the bottom of the screen and the right half was “reserved for either a full blue bar of body armor”. What a hospital charged when you died, that page does not say for GTA V, and neither does this one.
What this page becomes on launch day
From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: whether health regenerates, what the pills and the pen do, what the eye meter is and what dying costs, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
