GTA 6, how to
How do you change clothes and wear a mask in GTA 6?
Short answer
The footage shows the why more than the how. The wanted display carries an icon for your clothes and one for your face, next to icons for your crew and your car, and at 15:57 of the Extended Look a woman walks away from the getaway car with a bandana over her nose and mouth. No frame shows a shop, a wardrobe or the screen you change on. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's clothes stores and its mask stand.

Where the footage shows it
In most games clothes are decoration and a mask is a heist prop. GTA 6’s HUD suggests both are evidence. The wanted display itemises what the police know about you, and two of its four icons are a clothes hanger and a face. That gives this guide something to say before launch even though no frame shows a shop.
What the footage shows
At 14:13 of the Extended Look the top right corner carries the star scale and, under it, four small red icons: two figures side by side, a clothes hanger, a single face and a car. The reading the frames support is that each icon is a piece of description the police hold, and the car’s disappearance after the getaway car burns is the one case the video lets us watch. At 15:57 a woman walks away from that car in a covered car park with a red paisley bandana pulled up over her nose and mouth, and the icons above her are the figures, the hanger and the face. The frame does not show the bandana removing anything. It shows a face covering worn deliberately, under a display that tracks faces and clothes.
What is not here is a screen. Until 20 September 2026 the masks page on this site described an items tab with face wraps and masks on it; checked against every Extended Look frame we hold, that screen is in none of them. Outfits themselves are everywhere in the screenshots, from Lucia’s orange prison jumpsuit to gym gloves and floral shirts, which says the wardrobe is wide and nothing about how you open it.
What nobody knows
- Where clothes are bought, whether there is a wardrobe at a safehouse, and whether outfits can be saved.
- Whether changing clothes clears the hanger icon, and a mask the face icon.
- Whether masks are bought, found or handed out for a job.
- Whether the two figures mean accomplices, and whether changing who you are with matters.
How Grand Theft Auto V did it
This is the reference, not a prediction. Grand Theft Auto V sold clothes in stores across the map and kept outfits in the wardrobe at each safehouse. Masks came from one place, Vespucci Movie Masks on the beach at Vespucci, a stand that unlocked after the heist setup mission that needed them and sold novelty masks and printed shirts; the GTA Wiki lists their prices in the tens and hundreds of dollars. The one mechanical use was the search phase of a wanted level: putting a mask or sunglasses on, or taking them off, while the police were searching took a star off. A face icon sitting in the wanted block beside a hanger reads as that idea drawn onto the HUD and widened to the whole outfit.
What this page becomes on launch day
From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: the stores, the wardrobe, what a change of clothes does to the display and what a mask does, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
