Masks and disguises

Masks and disguises
Extended Look · snt-00162 · ~17:50.60 · usable frame

The ITEMS tab of the weapon wheel is a disguise wheel. A bandana, a pair of sunglasses, a cap and an outfit, each with a state of ON or OFF, and a prompt reading PUT ON.

At 17:50 the wheel is open on its second tab. The centre reads FACE WRAP, and below it the category: MASKS. Around it sit four items. The top slot, selected and outlined in white, is a red bandana marked OFF. To the left, a pair of sunglasses, OFF. To the right, a red and white cap, OFF. And to the lower right a clothes hanger carrying a tick — the outfit, and the only one currently on.

Bottom right is the prompt: PUT ON, on the cross button. The meters, the consumables and the money along the edges are the same as on the WEAPONS tab.

What makes this more than a wardrobe is the frame ninety seconds earlier. The wanted block in that frame carries an icon for clothing and an icon for a face, and this is the screen where both of those are things you switch. Rockstar has not described the connection; the two frames make it hard to read any other way.

How to recognise it

  • The ITEMS tab, reached with R1 from the weapon wheel
  • Centre label: FACE WRAP, with the category MASKS beneath
  • Four items — bandana, sunglasses, cap, outfit — each with an explicit ON or OFF state
  • The outfit slot carries a tick; the other three read OFF
  • PUT ON, on the cross button

The frame it comes from

The frame is Extended Look at ~17:50.60. It is 1920 by 1080, and the vehicle occupies 1920 by 1080 of it.

What we still do not know

  • Whether putting a mask on clears the matching wanted icon, or only stops a new one
  • How many slots the tab has in total — four are visible and occupied
  • Whether outfits are bought, found, or stored in a car boot, which is where one is changed at 18:11
  • Whether NPCs react to a mask outside of a wanted level
