The first police officer on foot in any of this material, with POLICE across the back of his carrier. Everything else we have of the law is a car, a boat or a helicopter.

At 5:08 in the Extended Look the camera looks into a green-lit room from a doorway. A man stands with his back to us, an outer carrier over a dark shirt, POLICE running across the back panel in spaced capitals. The letters measure thirty-three pixels high on the 3840 by 2160 frame, so this is read and not inferred. His right hand is down at his side with a pistol in it, not raised.

A second armed man stands to the left of him and aims a pistol two-handed. His carrier has no lettering on it at all: a plain plate carrier with three magazine pouches across the front, worn over a dark long-sleeved top, jeans and trainers. A third man is backing away from them both — bare-chested, gold chains, a red bucket hat, blue tracksuit bottoms with a white side stripe — with his arms out low and one hand braced on the furniture behind him. A long gun lies on the tiles between them.

Nobody's colours can be given here and we are not going to give them. Two fluorescent tubes hang in the frame. The near one throws green over the whole of the room the men are standing in; the second, at the top right and further off, is neutral white, measuring 180, 183, 173 against the green one's spill of 176, 206, 168. What reaches these men is the green one. The officer's trousers measure hue 53 to 65 at saturation 0.87 and his carrier hue 60 to 120; the floor tiles around him run hue 43 to 90 at saturation 0.41 to 0.80. Under a light like that a colour name is the lamp talking, not the cloth.

This is the same building as the shotgun pickup forty seconds earlier: tiled floor, red-brown dado and graffiti run straight through from 4:27 and the corridor at 4:56. What the sequence shows, then, is armed men in body armour of which one is marked police and at least two are not.

How to recognise it

 • POLICE in spaced capitals across the back of an outer carrier
 • A pistol held low at the side, not aimed
 • A second armed man beside him in an unmarked carrier with three magazine pouches
 • A long gun on the floor between them
 • Two ceiling tubes: a green one over the men and a neutral white one further off at the right

These figures come from the dataset, not from the prose above. We measure everything and claim what counts. How we work

What we still do not know

 • Whether the unmarked men are police in plain clothes, a second agency, or not police at all
 • Which force this is. The carrier carries the word and no crest, and no badge reads
 • Whether police on foot turn up in free roam or only in scripted scenes
 • Whether the man on the floor at 4:27 belongs to either group
