What sports and minigames are in GTA 6?

Every game in the series has had things to do that are not crimes, and the official GTA 6 material is unusually full of them. This page gathers the five that are on screen, says what each frame does and does not show, and sets the last game’s sports beside them.

What the footage shows

Basketball has a press screenshot shot from above: two courts side by side on a raised deck, one blue and one green, a player in pink under the blue court’s basket with both arms up in a shooter’s follow-through, and four people with a ball on the green court, one of them sitting on the surface. A separate moment in the Extended Look shows a hoop under a stilt house with a button prompt beside it; that frame is not measured on this site, so the prompt is not read here.

Beach volleyball is caught mid-point on the Vice City beachfront: a player at full stretch at the top of a jump, the ball at the apex just clear of his hands, a second player behind him in a cap and a woman in a wide straw hat watching from the sand. The net is outside the crop. In the same screenshot, further along the sand, a man works a metal detector in front of a yellow timber lifeguard tower: control box in one hand, the coil just clear of the sand, dark over-ear headphones on, which is how a detector is actually used.

Pool is a bar table under magenta neon in one of the Cal Hampton screenshots: a man leans into the shot with the cue drawn back, the cue ball and the yellow 1 in front of him, the black 8 by the far rail, and Cal Hampton opposite with a can in his hand, watching. Mini golf is a whole course in another: green felt fairways between rocks, rope fences on posts, a giant alligator arching over a waterfall, a thatched hut and a crowned stone frog, a second player bent over a putt in the middle distance and Cal Hampton in the foreground with a club over his shoulder.

A cue drawn back, a player at full stretch and a second golfer mid-putt are things being done rather than props, and that is what the frames establish. What they do not show is any of the machinery: no score, no stake, no prompt except the unmeasured one by the hoop.

What nobody knows

• Which of the five the player can actually play, and which are scenery with people in it.
• Whether there is scoring, betting or a reward, as the pool tables of GTA San Andreas had.
• Whether a game can be played with another character, as golf and tennis could in Grand Theft Auto V.
• What the button prompt beside the hoop says.
• Whether there is anything buried for a detector to find.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction, and it is drawn from the GTA Wiki’s pages on the last game. Grand Theft Auto V had three sports with systems of their own. Golf at the Los Santos Golf Club, an entrance fee of $100 for a round of nine holes, with club, stroke type, aim and power to set before each swing; all three protagonists could play, and together as a friend activity, with the one who started the game paying for both rounds. Tennis on eight courts around Los Santos, sets and difficulty chosen before the match and prizes of $14, $25 and $36 for easy, medium and hard, for Michael and Trevor only. Darts at the Yellow Jack Inn after the mission Crystal Maze, 301 down to exactly zero with the last dart on a double or the bull.

Of the five in the GTA 6 material, the last game had none as a playable thing. Pool tables reappeared in GTA V but were, in the wiki’s words, “otherwise not interactable”; the last game where you could play was GTA IV, and in San Andreas you could wager from $50 to $1,000 a frame. The wiki’s basketball page lists San Andreas, where you walked onto a court to pick up the ball, and then nothing until GTA 6. A metal detector exists only as a GTA Online item for the Cayo Perico heist and “does not appear in free-roam without glitches or other exploits”. Mini golf and beach volleyball have no GTA V entry on the pages this site read.

What this page becomes on launch day

From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: which of the five are playable, how each is started, what it costs and what it pays, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
