GTA 6, how to

How do you rob a store in GTA 6?

Short answer

The Extended Look shows a robbery from inside the shop: a jewellery store at 18:01, display cases open, two gunmen covering the room, a hostage on the floor, and four seconds later a motorcycle pulling away past the shop's fascia. It shows the score, not the button that starts it. A red disc with a camera icon over the HUD says the game notices who is watching. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's store hold-ups.

The one robbery in the official material is a proper one: a jewellery store in daylight, hostages on the floor, a getaway on a motorcycle. It is shown from inside, mid-act, which tells you a great deal about how the game stages a score and nothing about how you start one. This page is the frame, the marker beside it, and the last game’s version of the same crime.

What the footage shows

At 18:01 of the Extended Look the camera is inside a jewellery shop. Two people are bent over an opened display case in the foreground, the glass lid up and the trays exposed; a man in black is crouched behind the counter at the far left. Two gunmen hold the room, one in the centre in a black jacket and sunglasses with a pistol levelled and his face uncovered, the second in a black mask, T-shirt and camouflage shorts covering the doorway. A member of staff stands with her hands away from her body at the back and a second person kneels by the cabinets with her hands on her head. Through the glass, across the street, is a shopfront. Four seconds later the same camera is on a motorcycle pulling away past the fascia of Diamond Dawgs, which is how the robbery and the shop are connected.

The HUD carries two things worth keeping. The pistol reads 13 in the magazine and 65 in reserve, and above it sits a red disc with a camera icon, which reads as a surveillance marker. Trailer 1 shows the other end of that idea at 0:47: a shop’s own camera feed filling the screen, labelled FRONT DOOR with a running timestamp, watching a convenience store’s counter, snacks and lottery stand as an alligator walks in through the open door. Cameras exist, the game can show you what they see, and a marker on the HUD suggests they see you.

What nobody knows

  • Whether shops can be robbed at will, as in the last game, or only as scripted scores.
  • How a robbery starts: aiming at the clerk, a prompt, a mask, a crew.
  • What the surveillance marker does, and whether cameras can be shot out or avoided.
  • What a robbery pays, and how fast the police arrive.
  • Whether hostages, and the second gunman, are systems or staging.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction. In Grand Theft Auto V you could hold up convenience stores anywhere on the map; the GTA Wiki counts twenty. You drew a weapon and aimed it at the shopkeeper, who emptied the register into a plastic bag and threw it over the counter, and a second till could be shot open for a smaller amount. The bag held, by the wiki’s account, somewhere between one and three thousand dollars. The wanted level went to one star as you robbed and to two the moment you left with the cash, and whether a mask stopped the clerk recognising you on a return visit was, in the wiki’s words, uncertain. The jewellery store in the Extended Look, with its crew, its hostages and its camera marker, is a bigger thing than a hold-up, and whether the small version survives alongside it is one of the open questions above.

What this page becomes on launch day

From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: which stores can be robbed, how it starts, what the cameras do, what it pays and what the police do about it, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.

Where this comes from

Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
