An AR-pattern carbine with a carry handle, a collapsible stock and a ribbed round handguard, held in a bank vault with a banknote in the same gloved hand as the handguard.

Enlarged on the 4K master, the weapon is an AR-pattern rifle and not a compact submachine gun. The receiver carries a raised carry handle with a rear sight in it, a forward assist and an ejection port cover on the right side, and a straight ribbed box magazine in a well ahead of the pistol grip, which a gloved right hand holds. Behind the grip a collapsible stock rests against a black tactical vest. In front of the magazine the other gloved hand is wrapped round a round ribbed handguard, not a vertical foregrip, and the front of the handguard disappears into that hand, so the barrel and the front sight are not seen.

Everything this page said about it until 20 September 2026, shorter than the AR-pattern rifles, a vertical foregrip, a stock folded against the side, a magazine through the grip, the compact submachine-gun family, was wrong. It was written from the thumbnail, and the page was renamed from submachine gun to what the master shows.

Behind it is the inside of a bank vault: the edge of the vault door on the right, with large conical bolt heads on it, deposit boxes out of focus down the far wall, and banknotes in the air with a burning scrap among them. A banknote is held in the same gloved hand as the handguard, its value too small here to read, with a black watch on the wrist behind it, and a black leather belt with a rectangular buckle runs across the bottom of the crop. A round mark with a line of small lettering under it sits on the side of the magazine well, under this site’s floor for lettering, so it is not read here. The hands are Jason Duval’s, masked, in the second of the Jason and Lucia stills.

Whether this is the same weapon as the assault rifle is the open question the frame cannot close. On the assault rifle page, the rooftop rifle has the same carry handle, ribbed handguard and collapsible stock, and the jewellery-store rifle carries a holographic sight on the receiver instead of a carry handle. Merging them would be an editorial call, not a reading, so the page stays. GTA 5’s Carbine Rifle is the series’ version of the pattern.

How to recognise it

  • Carry handle with an integral rear sight
  • Forward assist and ejection port cover on the right of the receiver
  • Straight ribbed box magazine in a well ahead of the grip
  • Round ribbed handguard, gripped by a gloved hand
  • Collapsible stock, resting against a black tactical vest
  • Held in a bank vault, with banknotes in the air

The frame it comes from

The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the subject occupies 1190 by 993 of it. Also in it: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

How this was measured

Source Press pack
Frame 3840 × 2160
Crop 1190 × 993 — a good part of the frame
Image check 25 September 2026 — crop checked against the frame
Text check 25 September 2026 — 59 claims read against the image, 7 corrected
Read at the true pixel grid, 1:1
Lettering Letter height Contrast Reads
the round mark and the line of small lettering on the side of the magazine well 9 px — no
the value on the banknote in the front hand 10 px — no

These figures come from the dataset, not from the prose above. We measure everything and claim what counts. How we work

What we still do not know

  • Whether this is the same weapon as the AR-pattern assault rifle on its own page here. The two look alike and merging them is an editorial call, not a reading.
  • The manufacturer and model. A round mark and a line of small lettering on the magazine well sit under this site’s floor.
  • The calibre, and the barrel, which the front hand hides.

A note on this record

Rebuilt on 22 September 2026 against the 4K press still, with a reading record on the crop. Everything the correction of 20 September established holds: carry handle, forward assist, ejection port cover, straight ribbed magazine, round ribbed handguard. Added: the vault door and the deposit boxes behind, the watch on the wrist, and the comparison with the rooftop rifle, which shares the carry handle and the handguard. Checked again on 25 September 2026 at 1:1, with the crop widened to hold the whole rifle from the stock to the front hand. Six things were wrong. The banknote was called a fifty, and its value does not read at this size. The barrel does not run out at the top: the front hand hides it, and what the old crop cut off at the top was the stock, which the open questions placed outside the frame. The mask and the round vault door with its bolt work lie outside the crop. The still was called the vault sequence, and it is one press still. The comparison with the assault rifle described frames this page does not show, outside its link. The line about GTA 5 keeping its heaviest hardware in a bank vault went as well, as it could not be checked either way; the Carbine Rifle comparison stays. Added: the collapsible stock, the belt, and the round mark on the magazine well.
