Can you take photos and selfies in GTA 6?
Short answer
No frame shows a camera app, a viewfinder or a gallery. What the material shows is the phone itself, a message card in the corner of the screen, and a world that photographs you: a security feed, a bodycam, a news helicopter and a social network post with a Follow button. Whether you can point the phone at anything is in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V the phone's Snapmatic took photos and selfies, with twelve filters and twelve borders, and uploaded them to the Social Club.

Where the footage shows it
The camera in your pocket has been part of the series since GTA V’s Snapmatic, and the question of whether GTA 6 has one is reasonable. The material does not answer it. What it shows instead is how much of the world is filming you, and this page keeps the two apart.
What the footage shows
Nothing of a camera you hold. The phone appears as a message card in the corner of the screen, a cartoon avatar in a pink ring and a text that names a target, and never as a viewfinder, a gallery or a camera app. No frame shows a photo being taken, a selfie pose or a picture on a wall that a player took.
What the material shows in quantity is cameras pointed the other way. At 0:41 of Trailer 1 a post fills the screen, a boat-party clip with a handle, a Follow button and a caption, in the layout a short-video app uses. At 0:47 a security feed watches a shop with FRONT DOOR and a timestamp burnt in, and at 0:49 a police body camera is the shot, date, time and unit number in the corner. The news helicopter in the press pack has a cameraman leaning out of the open door with a shoulder camera, and at 18:25 of the Extended Look a livestream with 53k viewers runs over the driving. Somebody in this world is always filming; whether the player is, the frames do not say.
What nobody knows
- Whether there is a camera app, and whether it takes selfies.
- Whether photos are saved, shared to the in-game network, or uploaded outside the game.
- Whether the clip in the social network post is something a player could have shot.
- Whether a photo mode exists outside the phone.
How Grand Theft Auto V did it
This is the reference, not a prediction. GTA V’s camera was Snapmatic, an app on the in-game phone that, in the GTA Wiki’s words, let players “take and upload pictures to the Social Club”. Selfies were possible, with actions the character could perform while taking one. Pictures went to an in-game gallery, “a choice of 12 filters” and “a choice of 12 borders” could be laid over them, two more filters unlocking with the Murder Mystery, and on PS3 and Xbox 360 “players are limited to 96 saved images”. A world full of cameras and a phone with none in it yet is where GTA 6’s material leaves the comparison.
What this page becomes on launch day
