The in-game social network

The world has its own social network. Posts appear with a handle and a caption, shot vertically, the way a phone shoots.

One frame shows a post filling the screen in portrait format with an account name and a caption underneath, in the layout a short-video app uses. Another carries the handle @OfficialPOACH with a warning about uninvited guests.

The vertical framing is the detail that dates the game's world. Grand Theft Auto has satirised social media since GTA IV, but always in a desktop shape; this is shot and displayed the way a phone does it.

The livestream overlay that runs over the driving is almost certainly part of the same system, but the frames do not link them explicitly, so the two have separate pages here.

How to recognise it

• Posts shown in portrait format, phone-shaped
• An account handle and a caption on the post
• @OfficialPOACH as one of the visible handles
• Displayed full-screen rather than in a HUD corner

What we still do not know

• Whether the player posts or only watches
• Whether it is the same system as the livestream overlay
