How do car meets and street takeovers work in GTA 6?

Car culture is one of the things the official material returns to on purpose, and it draws a line between two versions of it. One is parked and social. The other closes a junction. This page keeps that line, because the two frames do, and says what neither of them shows.

What the footage shows

At 26:06 of the Extended Look the camera is on a waterfront lot where cars are parked in a row, nose-out, with people standing and talking between them. Nothing is moving: no smoke, no crowd ring, no car in motion. Three cars at the front of the row are readable on their own pages: a black four-door in a full wrap with HAWX along the window band, a sedan in black and white dazzle stripes, and a dark car with green graffiti lettering across its flank. Further back sit more cars, a flatbed and a pickup, with water at the edge of the frame. It is a meet in the plain sense: a place people bring cars to be looked at.

At 0:45 of Trailer 1 the camera looks straight down on a junction at night. One car sits at the centre inside a ring of its own smoke, lit magenta from underneath, with two people standing on its roof and bonnet; circles of rubber are scored into the tarmac around it, a second car waits at the edge, and the approaches are lined and blocked with parked cars. Somebody has closed the crossing. Underglow is the detail worth recording, because the series launched its last game without it and only added it to GTA Online later. A third frame belongs with the meet: at 0:27 of the same trailer a pale blue lowrider sits on the floor at a street meet with airbrushed scrollwork down its flank, in a row of modified cars with their boots open.

What nobody knows

• Whether a meet is a place you can drive into with your own car, and whether it does anything: races, mods, bets, reputation.
• Whether a takeover is an event you can join or start, or a scene that happens around you.
• Whether the police break up a takeover, and what it does to the wanted display.
• Whether wraps, underglow and hydraulics are yours to buy, and where.

What the last game had

This is the reference, not a prediction, and for once it is not story mode. Grand Theft Auto V’s single-player campaign had no car meet and no takeover. GTA Online added the LS Car Meet years later: an indoor facility in Cypress Flats with a test track, time trials, head-to-head and scramble races, a four-bay mod shop, a membership with reputation points that unlocked clothing, mods and trade prices, weekly test drives and prize-ride challenges. That is the shape a lot of the material above resembles, and it is a shape from the online game. Whether GTA 6’s story carries it, or leaves it for the online mode that follows, is exactly the kind of thing one parked frame cannot decide.

What this page becomes on launch day

From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: what a meet does, how a takeover starts, what the police do about it and where the wraps come from, each with the date it was checked. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
