GTA 6, how to
How do you switch between Jason and Lucia in GTA 6?
Short answer
Nobody knows yet. Rockstar names both Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as playable, and the press screenshots show each of them alone as well as together, but no official frame shows the switch itself: no wheel, no prompt, no cut from one to the other. Until 19 November 2026 the only reference is how Grand Theft Auto V did it.

Where the footage shows it
GTA 6 has two leads, and that is the one hard fact. Rockstar’s own press pack names Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, its screenshots show each of them alone as well as together, and the Extended Look follows Jason with Lucia texting him from somewhere else. How the game moves you from one to the other is not in any of it.
What the footage shows
Two things, and neither is the switch. The first is that both of them carry the game on their own. Lucia is alone in ten of the official screenshots, one of them in a prison jumpsuit and handcuffs; Jason is the most photographed person in the material, alone or beside her. Rockstar’s synopsis is about the pair, forced to rely on each other, and every shared frame is a frame of the two of them.
The second is that they are not always in the same place. At 23:57 in the Extended Look a message from Lucia arrives while the camera is on Jason, mid-mission, as a card that hangs in the world. So the game has Jason playing while Lucia is elsewhere and reachable. That is consistent with a game that lets you switch between them, and equally consistent with a game that hands you one of them at a time; the frame does not choose.
What is not in any frame we hold: a character wheel, a prompt to swap, a cut from one lead to the other, or a HUD element that names who you are. The Extended Look is a single run of play, and nothing in it changes hands.
What nobody knows
- Whether you switch freely in the open world, only when the story does, or both.
- What the switch looks like: a wheel as in Grand Theft Auto V, a contact on the phone, or a cutscene.
- Whether the two share money, weapons, wanted level and inventory, or keep their own.
- Whether some missions are one lead only, and whether you can play a mission as either.
- Whether the lead you are not playing goes on doing things while you are away.
How Grand Theft Auto V did it
This is the reference, not a prediction. Grand Theft Auto V had three leads, Michael, Franklin and Trevor, and a character wheel that let you swap between them and also served as the door into GTA Online. Switching was not always allowed. The GTA Wiki lists the cases: with a wanted level, during missions unless the mission featured two or three of the characters, during friendship activities, and for a stretch of the story when Michael or Trevor could not enter Los Santos. When you switched, the screen tinted in the colour of the character you were switching to, the same colour that showed when that character’s special ability was active. Each of the three had a colour of his own.
Two of those details are the ones to watch for on launch day. If GTA 6 blocks switching under a wanted level, then losing the police is a single-lead problem. If it lets you swap mid-mission, the jewellery store robbery in the Extended Look, with a second gunman in the doorway, may be a two-lead scene played from either side.
What this page becomes on launch day
From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: the input that switches, where it is blocked, what carries over between the two and what does not, each with the date it was checked. Until then the short answer at the top stands, and it is an honest one: the footage shows two leads and no switch.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
