How do you get a helicopter in GTA 6?

In the last game a single helicopter, the Buzzard, was searched for more than every business jet combined, so the question of how you get one will come early. The honest answer before launch is short: the official material shows two helicopters, and both belong to somebody else. This page is those two, what nobody knows, and how GTA V handed helicopters out.

What the footage shows

The police helicopter is seen closest at 2:27.30 of Trailer 2, banked over the water with the sun low behind it, running down a wooden-decked speedboat: a white body with a yellow pinstripe and a green band along the bottom of the fuselage, POLICE in dark green capitals across the engine deck, VICE-DALE in the same capitals along the flank below the cabin windows, a gold star badge between the two, skids under a dark angled strut and a yellow tip on the rotor blade that sweeps across the frame. It is back at 15:43.27 of the Extended Look in the same sequence as the police pickup and the cruiser, and in a Grassrivers press still over the swamp.

The news helicopter is a press still from Mount Kalaga, photographed close enough to read its registration: N88892 in white on the dark upper fuselage, NEWS down the red rear fuselage and REPORTING THE RIGHT NEWS under the open door a cameraman in an olive flight suit is leaning out of, a shoulder camera on a mount in front of him. The livery is white over red with a black flash along the cabin, the tail fin carries red and white candy stripes, and it sits on skids, which is worth recording because both real helicopters it is usually matched to carry wheels.

That is the fleet, and the helicopter hub says so rather than padding it. Neither machine is flown by the player, neither is landed on a pad you could walk to, and no frame shows a helicopter for sale, parked at a hospital or waiting on a roof. What the police one does establish is that helicopters take part in pursuits, over water at least.

• At what wanted level the police helicopter joins a chase, and whether it can be shot down.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction. GTA V sold aircraft through a website, Elitás Travel, “the online leader in executive aviation sales” in the GTA Wiki’s quotation, whose catalogue listed the Frogger at “FREE–$1,300,000”, the Maverick at $780,000 and the Annihilator at $1,825,000. The Buzzard, the armed one everybody searched for, came from Warstock Cache & Carry at $2,000,000 in story mode, and for free from two places the wiki names: Fort Zancudo, and the roof of the NOOSE headquarters on Sustancia Road, where it “can be obtained safely without triggering a wanted level”. Whether a story-mode purchase needed a helipad first, the pages this site read do not say.

What this page becomes on launch day

From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: where helicopters are found, whether they can be bought and kept, and when the police one joins a chase, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands.
