How do you fly a plane in GTA 6?

Planes are in GTA 6, and that is as far as the footage goes. Seven aircraft have pages on this site, every one of them measured out of an official frame, and not one of those frames is taken from the pilot’s seat. There is no cockpit, no flight HUD and no hangar door. What can be said honestly is what is parked, what is flying, and how the last game handled the part that is missing.

What the footage shows

The aircraft the material returns to most is a single-engine floatplane: banking over turquoise shallows in a press screenshot of the Keys, seen from above in Trailer 1 at 0:35, and inside a boatyard in Trailer 2 at 1:25 with a man climbing onto the float with a case. A floatplane that appears three times, once with somebody boarding it, is the strongest hint in the material that small aircraft are the player’s to use. It is a hint. Nobody is at the controls in any of the three.

Business jets appear twice: on a dark apron at 19:37 of the Extended Look, cabin windows lit and the airstair down, and on approach over Vice City in a press screenshot. An airliner is in the sky in another. The helicopters belong to other people: the police over a chase at 15:43, and a news helicopter close enough to read its registration. All of it is seen from outside.

What nobody knows

• Whether planes can be bought, only stolen, or hired, and where they are kept.
• Where the airfields are. The material shows an apron and an approach, not a map.
• The controls, and whether a flying skill exists that changes how an aircraft handles.
• Whether there is a flight school, or anything like it.
• Whether restricted airspace, and the stars that came with it last time, is back.

How Grand Theft Auto V did it

This is the reference, not a prediction. Grand Theft Auto V had a flight school on Exceptionalists Way at Los Santos International Airport, open after the mission Friends Reunited, with lessons in take-off, landing, low flying, inverted flight and looping; the GTA Wiki counts twelve of them. It was not required to fly, and Trevor, written as an expert pilot, did not need it, but it fed a flying skill that made taking off, landing and handling turbulence easier, and the skill also grew with time spent in the air. Aircraft had a damage model in which control surfaces could be torn off and tyres burst, engines smoked and lost power past a certain point of damage, and flying too far out to sea shut the engine down and put you in the water.

What this page becomes on launch day

From 19 November 2026 this guide is rewritten from the release build: where the aircraft are, how they are taken, the controls, whether a skill exists and what restricted airspace does, each with the date it was tested. Until then the short answer at the top stands: planes are in the game, and nobody has flown one.
