GTA 6

GTA 6 guides: how to do it, from the footage

How do you fish, race, fight, lose the police or switch between Jason and Lucia in GTA 6? Nobody outside Rockstar has played the game, so nobody can tell you the buttons yet. What can be said is what the official footage shows of each of these things, with the timecode, and what Grand Theft Auto V did, as the nearest reference there is.

Every guide here has the same three parts until 19 November 2026. First, where the footage shows the thing being done, each with the page on this site that carries the frame. Second, what nobody knows: the controls, the rules, the rewards. Third, how Grand Theft Auto V handled it, marked as a reference and not a prediction, because Rockstar changes these things between games. On launch day the short answer at the top of each guide switches over, and the guide is rewritten from the game itself, with the date it was played.

  • How do you switch between Jason and Lucia in GTA 6?

Nobody knows yet. Rockstar names both Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as playable, and the press screenshots show each of them alone as well as together, but no official frame shows the switch itself: no wheel, no prompt, no cut from one to the other. Until 19 November 2026 the only reference is how Grand Theft Auto V did it.

  • How do you lose the police in GTA 6?

The footage shows what the police know about you, not how you shake them. The wanted display carries six star positions and, under them, icons for your crew, your clothes, your face and your car; in the Extended Look the car icon is gone after the getaway car is set alight. Getting rid of what they know is the mechanic the frames point at. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's line-of-sight search.

  • How do you make money in GTA 6?

Nothing official says what pays. The weapon wheel frame shows two money balances side by side, the Extended Look shows a jewellery store being robbed and product being cut and packed by hand, and Rockstar's synopsis opens with an easy score going wrong. That is the whole picture. Until launch, the reference is what paid in Grand Theft Auto V.

  • How do you save your game in GTA 6?

No official frame shows a save: no menu, no bed, no autosave icon, and Rockstar has said nothing about it. The one thing the material confirms is that Jason has a safehouse, because Rockstar's own caption calls it that. Until 19 November 2026 the reference is Grand Theft Auto V, which autosaved after missions and let you save by sleeping at a safehouse.

  • How do you fly a plane in GTA 6?

No official frame puts the player at the controls of an aircraft. The material has a single-engine floatplane over the Keys and moored at a boatyard, business jets on an apron and on approach, an airliner, and helicopters for the police and the news, and every one of them is seen from outside. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's flight school and flying skill.

  • How do you buy weapons and ammo in GTA 6?

Ammu-Nation is back. A television commercial in Trailer 2 shows the slat wall behind the counter of Phil's Ammu-Nation with around ten long guns on it, and the Extended Look's weapon wheel shows a magazine count over a reserve for each gun. What a gun costs, and whether ammo is sold anywhere else, is in no frame. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's Ammu-Nation.

  • How do you swim and dive in GTA 6?

The official material shows diving with a tank, mask and fins on a reef with a sea turtle, jet skis and kayaks on the water, and nobody swimming at the surface without equipment. The water is somewhere you go, with gear. How long you can stay under, and whether there is a breath meter, is in no frame. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's swimming and its lung capacity stat.

  • How do you steal a car in GTA 6?

Two ways, and the game asks you to choose. At 6:04.90 in the Extended Look a man leans into the door of a parked coupe and two prompts appear on the car itself: SLIM JIM on triangle and SMASH WINDOW on circle. One is quiet and slow, one is fast and loud. Everything beyond that choice, from alarms to who is watching, is not in the frame.

  • How do you fish in GTA 6?

Fishing is in the game. One press screenshot shows Jason on the deck of a hardtop boat with a spinning rod in both hands and a friend beside him with binoculars. There is no interface in the frame, so whether it is a minigame or an animation is unknown. Grand Theft Auto V had no fishing, so there is no earlier GTA to fall back on; the nearest Rockstar reference is Red Dead Redemption 2.

  • How does fighting work in GTA 6?

Bare-knuckle fighting is in the Extended Look as a staged event: a backyard ring made of rope and posts over a tarpaulin, two men trading punches and a handful of spectators. The weapon wheel puts a fist in a slot of its own, labelled UNARMED. Dodging, countering and the buttons for either are in no frame. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's melee.

  • How do you race in GTA 6?

The Extended Look shows two kinds of race being driven, with a full race readout on screen: a circuit race with sixteen cars over two laps on a wet track at 17:41, and an off-road race with twelve riders on a graded dirt course at 18:34. How you enter either, and what it pays, is in no frame. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's street and off-road races.

  • How do car meets and street takeovers work in GTA 6?

Both are in the official material, and they are two different things. A car meet is a waterfront lot with wrapped cars parked nose-out and people talking between them, at 26:06 of the Extended Look; a street takeover is a junction closed off at night, full of tyre smoke, with a car lit from underneath in the middle, at 0:45 of Trailer 1. Whether you can join, host or bet on either is in no frame. Grand Theft Auto V's story mode had neither; the reference is GTA Online's car meet.

  • How do you hunt in GTA 6?

Hunting is in the game, in Mount Kalaga National Park. One press screenshot has two hunters walking through long grass under the pines, both carrying rifles, one in an orange top; another from the same park has deer at a drinking spot with a panther coming through the water. No frame shows a shot, a kill or a score. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's hunting with Cletus.

  • How does the phone work in GTA 6?

The phone exists and the footage shows it three ways: a text from Lucia that arrives as a card hanging in the world at 23:57 of the Extended Look, a social-network post that fills the screen in Trailer 1, and a live stream with chat that can be opened with R3 at 18:25. No frame shows the phone's home screen, its apps or a call. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's smartphone.

  • How do you change clothes and wear a mask in GTA 6?

The footage shows the why more than the how. The wanted display carries an icon for your clothes and one for your face, next to icons for your crew and your car, and at 15:57 of the Extended Look a woman walks away from the getaway car with a bandana over her nose and mouth. No frame shows a shop, a wardrobe or the screen you change on. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's clothes stores and its mask stand.

  • How does the dog work in GTA 6?

There is a dog you can give orders to. At 1:57 of the Extended Look a command stack sits in the corner: SCOLD on circle, PET on triangle, STUDY on R1, and DOG on L2 under a rule. Whose dog it is, what STUDY does and whether the dog fights, fetches or finds things is in no frame. Until launch, the reference is Chop in Grand Theft Auto V.

  • How do you work out and raise your stats in GTA 6?

The gym is back as a place: a press screenshot has Lucia on a bench between sets, gloves on, headphones on, a loaded barbell beside her. Whether it raises anything is in no frame. The weapon wheel shows three meters, a heart, a lightning bolt and an eye, which are the nearest thing the material has to stats, and it does not label them. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's skills.

  • How do nightclubs and bars work in GTA 6?

The material shows the places and not the doors. A packed nightclub dance floor at 1:39 of Trailer 2, a bar pool table under neon with a cue mid-stroke, a rooftop terrace bar Jason and Lucia walk onto hand in hand, and a club whose name is lit on the wall. Whether you can drink, dance, play or own any of it is in no frame. Until launch, the reference is what Grand Theft Auto V let you into, which was very little.

  • How do you rob a store in GTA 6?

The Extended Look shows a robbery from inside the shop: a jewellery store at 18:01, display cases open, two gunmen covering the room, a hostage on the floor, and four seconds later a motorcycle pulling away past the shop's fascia. It shows the score, not the button that starts it. A red disc with a camera icon over the HUD says the game notices who is watching. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's store hold-ups.

  • How do you set a waypoint and follow the GPS in GTA 6?

The minimap is in the footage and the map is not. At 15:49 of the Extended Look the corner map draws a pink route from the player's arrow to a marker, with the distance in feet and a compass letter on its rim; in the race frames the same map shows the circuit and the field. No frame shows the full map, a waypoint being set, or the pause screen. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's radar and GPS.

  • How do cover and stealth work in GTA 6?

The footage shows people using cover and nobody explaining it. In the jewellery store a man crouches behind the counter while two gunmen hold the room; at the shooting range the targets stand behind plates, drums and sandbags; in a green-lit room an officer and an unmarked man aim pistols at a third who is backing away. No frame shows a cover prompt, a crouch or a takedown. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's stealth mode.

  • How do you sell a car in GTA 6?

No official frame shows a car being sold, and Rockstar has said nothing about it. The footage shows cars being stolen, modified and shown off at a waterfront meet, which is where a market would be if there is one. In Grand Theft Auto V's story mode you could not sell cars at all; that was an online feature. Until launch, that absence is the reference.

  • How do you buy a house or a business in GTA 6?

Jason has a safehouse, because Rockstar's own caption says so. That is the only property the official material confirms; no frame shows a sale sign, a price, a deed or an income. Until 19 November 2026 the reference is Grand Theft Auto V, where businesses were bought from a sign outside and paid a weekly profit into the bank.

  • Is there a stock market in GTA 6, and how do you invest?

Nothing in the official material shows a stock market, a broker, a ticker or a share price. The only money on screen is the pair of balances on the weapon wheel. Whether the two exchanges of Grand Theft Auto V return, and whether the story moves prices the way Lester's assassinations did, is unknown. Until launch, that game is the reference.

  • How do you start missions in GTA 6?

The Extended Look opens inside a mission and never shows one being accepted. What it shows is the machinery around a mission: a dialogue choice on two buttons in a lobby at 0:59, a KNOCK prompt floating on a door at 2:14, a text mid-mission that names a target, and a route drawn on the minimap. No marker, no contact list and no mission title is in any frame. Until launch, the reference is how Grand Theft Auto V handed out its work.

  • How do you call a taxi in GTA 6?

No official frame shows a taxi being hailed, called or ridden in. The nearest thing in the material is a water taxi, a canopied passenger boat on a city waterway at 17:28 of the Extended Look, carrying people who are plainly not driving. Whether a cab can be called from the phone and ridden to a marker, as it could in Grand Theft Auto V, is unknown.

  • How do you customise your car in GTA 6?

The footage shows the results and not the shop. A meet full of wrapped cars at 26:06 of the Extended Look, a lowrider laid on the floor with airbrushed flanks at 0:27 of Trailer 1, and a car lit from underneath at a street takeover say that wraps, stance and underglow are in the game. No frame shows a garage, a menu or a price. Until launch, the reference is Los Santos Customs in Grand Theft Auto V.

  • How do motorcycles work in GTA 6, and can you wheelie?

Yes, and the footage is full of it. A dirt bike stands almost vertical on its back wheel in the Trailer 1 parade, another holds a wheelie down a residential street in a press screenshot, a quad rides with its front wheels in the air, and the Extended Look races a green motocross bike from the chase camera. Whether there is a stat behind any of it, and what a fall costs, is in no frame. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V's bikes.

  • How do boats work in GTA 6?

Boats are the best-documented vehicles in the material after cars: an airboat named on its own seat back, a jet ski named on its hull, a water taxi, an inflatable, motor yachts and a boat brand legible on a hull, and the Extended Look shows the airboat under way from dead astern. What no frame shows is where a boat comes from: no dock prompt, no dealer, no trailer being launched. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V.

  • How do conversations and interactions work in GTA 6?

The Extended Look shows two systems the series has not had before. Dialogue choices: two options on two buttons at 0:59, RAYMOND? on square and SAN4SAN on L2. And prompts drawn on the world: KNOCK floating on a door at 2:14, HOLD HANDS on R2 as Jason and Lucia walk onto a terrace at 9:55, SLIM JIM and SMASH WINDOW on a car door. What any choice changes is in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V there was nothing to choose.

  • What sports and minigames are in GTA 6?

Five show up in the official material: basketball on two courts, beach volleyball mid-rally, pool with a cue drawn back, a full crazy golf course, and a man working a metal detector along the sand. Not one frame shows a scoreboard, a bet or a control prompt for any of them, apart from a button prompt beside a hoop in the Extended Look that this site has not measured. Until launch, the reference is Grand Theft Auto V, which had golf, tennis and darts.

  • How do jet skis and kayaks work in GTA 6?

Both are in the footage being ridden. Three jet skis run a built-up waterway at 17:25 of the Extended Look with the minimap in the corner, so that is the player's own camera, and a jet ski in Trailer 2 carries its name, Seashark, along its hull. A kayak is paddled up a Mount Kalaga river in a press still and along a city waterway at 17:28, with crest on the hull. Where either comes from, and what the paddling is like, no frame shows. Grand Theft Auto V had the Seashark and no kayak at all.

  • Can you deal drugs in GTA 6?

One frame shows the making and nothing shows the selling. At 2:56 of the Extended Look, gloved hands cut and pack product at a kitchen table, with a carton of instant dry milk and a flour-style box on it for cutting agents and a second worker in a surgical mask behind. What the product is, whether this is a mission or a business you run, and whether anything is ever sold, no frame shows. In Grand Theft Auto V the drug trade was Trevor's story rather than a business you ran; that came with GTA Online.

  • How do security cameras work in GTA 6?

The material shows the feeds, not the mechanics. At 0:47 of Trailer 1 one camera feed fills the screen, labelled FRONT DOOR with a burnt-in timestamp, watching a convenience store as an alligator walks in through the door; two seconds later a police bodycam does the same, with a date, a time and a unit number in the corner. No frame shows a camera being disabled, looped or avoided, or footage being taken. In Grand Theft Auto V cameras were something you photographed before a heist.

  • How do social media and livestreaming work in GTA 6?

Two systems are on screen, and neither is shown being operated by the player. At 0:41 of Trailer 1 a post fills the screen: the handle DadBodSquad, a Follow button and a caption over a boat-party clip. At 18:25 of the Extended Look a livestream runs over the driving: a LIVE badge, 53k viewers, eight chat messages in English and Spanish, and VIEW LIVESTREAM on R3. Whether you post, stream or only watch is in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V you could read Lifeinvader and never post to it.

  • Can you watch TV and the news in GTA 6?

The news is in the footage; a television being watched is not. At 1:03 of Trailer 1 a Weazel News broadcast fills the frame: helicopter footage of a flipped car, a LIVE badge, 10:34 ET on the logo block and a strapline about a dine and dash; a second item at 1:06 runs a ticker under its strapline. Nothing shows a screen in a safehouse or a channel being changed. In Grand Theft Auto V you sat down to watch, and the news reported your own robbery.

  • How do you switch weapons in GTA 6?

One frame shows the whole system. At 17:50 of the Extended Look the weapon wheel is open: eight slots round a centre, a pistol in the top slot with 20 over 80, a fist selected, binoculars at the lower right, and a tab bar with WEAPONS and ITEMS switched on R1. Which button opens the wheel, how a slot cycles and whether time slows are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V the wheel also had eight slots, by weapon type, and slowed the game while it was open.

  • How does the shooting range work in GTA 6?

As a scored course, on the evidence of one frame. At 18:32 of the Extended Look a woman with a carbine stands at the mouth of a mock village, twelve silhouette targets behind steel plates, drums and sandbags, TARGETS REMAINING 7 / 12, a clock at 00:33.74 with a second clock at 00:30.000 under it, and HIT floating over the targets that go down. Where the range is, what the second clock is for and what a run earns are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V the range was at Ammu-Nation, cost $14 to enter and paid out in discounts.

  • Can you rob an armoured truck in GTA 6?

One frame of the Extended Look shows it happening. At 9:28 an armoured cash truck stands in the road with both rear doors open, gruppe and a green 6 on its flank, a masked figure with a rifle at one corner, another lifting a bag out of the back, and a body face-down behind the step bumper. Whether it is a scripted job or something that comes round in the world, how the doors were opened and what the bag holds are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V it was a random event that kept coming back.

  • How do you get a helicopter in GTA 6?

Two helicopters are in the official material, and neither is the player's. A police helicopter runs down a speedboat at 2:27 of Trailer 2, POLICE across its engine deck and VICE-DALE along the flank, and again at 15:43 of the Extended Look; a news helicopter banks over Mount Kalaga in a press still, N88892 on its fuselage and a cameraman in the open door. No frame shows a helicopter being flown, found, bought or landed on by the player. In Grand Theft Auto V they sat on helipads and rooftops, or came from a website for seven figures.

  • What animals are in GTA 6, and can you hunt alligators?

The official material is full of them. Alligators walk into a shop on a security feed, ride caged in a pickup's bed through the swamp, lie dead on a jetty beside hunters and float live around an airboat in the duckweed; deer drink at a pool in Mount Kalaga with a big cat walking towards them; an iguana lies on a road in the Keys and another is draped over a woman's shoulders in a bar; wading birds stand in the shallows. What you can shoot, catch or keep is in no frame. Grand Theft Auto V had wildlife too, and a hunting job for Trevor.

  • Can you ride or drive trains in GTA 6?

Two trains are in the material and neither is boarded. A freight train crosses a steel truss bridge in Mount Kalaga in a press still, a yellow and dark blue locomotive with open hoppers behind it, and a metro car stands on an elevated guideway over the water at 17:28 of the Extended Look, beside a motorway deck, with an elevated railway crossing a Little Haiti street in another frame. No frame shows a platform, a ticket or a cab. In Grand Theft Auto V the freight train could not be driven and would not stop for you.

  • How do you heal in GTA 6?

One frame draws the whole system and none shows it in use. At 17:50 of the Extended Look, with the weapon wheel open, three meters sit top left, a heart in pink, a lightning bolt in cyan and an eye in lilac, and two consumables sit bottom left: a red pill bottle with a count of 2 and a pink heart on square, and an orange injector pen with a count of 2 and a gold heart on triangle. What either does, whether health regenerates and what a hospital costs are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V health came back to the halfway point on its own and the rest came from snacks and drinks.

  • What happens when you get arrested in GTA 6?

The material shows custody, not the arrest. Lucia stands in an orange jumpsuit with her wrists cuffed, three other inmates around her and an officer's belt in the foreground, in one official screenshot; the prison itself, double fence, razor wire and an octagonal watchtower with a guard on its gallery, is at 0:49 of Trailer 2; a bodycam shot in Trailer 1 has an officer holding a man in a pale vest; the news reports an arrest. Whether being busted in play means the wire, a fine or a walk out of a police station is in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V you woke up outside the nearest police station, minus your ammo.

  • How do you enter cheats in GTA 6?

Nobody can tell you yet, because no cheat exists: Rockstar has published no GTA 6 code, no entry method and no effect, and no frame of the official material shows a cheat being entered. Every list of GTA 6 codes online before 19 November 2026 is invented or copied from Grand Theft Auto V. What the last game did is documented: button combinations, phone numbers beginning 1-999 on the in-game phone, and a console on PC, at the cost of that session's trophies and achievements.

  • How does the radio work in GTA 6, and what is on it?

No radio interface is in any frame, and no station has been named. What is on record is the music itself: 21 licensed songs across Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and the Extended Look, identified by ear in reporting, and one named record label with its own desk in the world, Only Raw Records. Whether those songs sit on stations, how a station is changed and whether you can bring your own music are in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V there were 22 stations on a wheel, and a Self Radio on PC.

  • Can you parachute or skydive in GTA 6?

Nothing in the official material shows it: no parachute, no jump, no canopy, no plane door open at altitude. Planes and a helicopter are in the footage; leaving one in the air is not. In Grand Theft Auto V a parachute cost $100 at Ammu-Nation, was free at two spots, and was equipped automatically in any aircraft after the mission Minor Turbulence.

  • How do you buy a car in GTA 6?

No frame shows a car being bought: no dealership, no website, no garage delivery, no price on a windscreen. What the footage shows is cars being taken, two prompts on a door at 6:04, modified, a meet full of wrapped cars at 26:06, and driven; the one car business with a readable sign is a salvage yard and the one workshop is a working shop, not a showroom. In Grand Theft Auto V you bought cars on the in-game internet and they were delivered to your garage; Legendary Motorsport listed the Cheetah at $650,000.

  • Can you take photos and selfies in GTA 6?

No frame shows a camera app, a viewfinder or a gallery. What the material shows is the phone itself, a message card in the corner of the screen, and a world that photographs you: a security feed, a bodycam, a news helicopter and a social network post with a Follow button. Whether you can point the phone at anything is in no frame. In Grand Theft Auto V the phone's Snapmatic took photos and selfies, with twelve filters and twelve borders, and uploaded them to the Social Club.

  • Is there a casino in GTA 6, and can you gamble?

Nothing in the official material shows one: no casino building, no table, no slot machine, no chips and no bet. The closest things in the frames are a pool table under neon and a lottery stand by a shop door on a security feed. In Grand Theft Auto V's story a casino building stood on the map; the Diamond Casino opened in GTA Online in July 2019, with blackjack, roulette, poker, slots and a wheel.

57 days until GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026.
