GTA 6, answered
How many GB will GTA 6 be?
Short answer
No official figure exists. Not on the PlayStation Store listing, not on the Microsoft Store listing, not on the Newswire. The first number worth believing appears when pre-loading opens on 12 November 2026.
Sources last checked 23 September 2026
We checked, because a lot of pages will tell you a number with real confidence. There is nothing behind any of them: no storefront listing carries an install size, and Rockstar has never published one.
Where an official number would appear, and when
- The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings. Both show a download size once the build is finalised, typically in the last weeks before release. On 23 September 2026 the US listings on both stores carried a price, the pre-order bonus and the pre-load line, and no size.
- Pre-loading, from 12 November 2026. This is the hard one. When pre-load opens, your own console shows you the real size of the real build. That is the first number worth acting on, and it arrives seven days before launch, in Take-Two’s announcement and as a “7-Day Pre-load” line on the PlayStation Store listing.
Why the figures in circulation are worthless
The range you keep seeing, somewhere around 150 to 200 GB, traces back to unverified leaks and to people reasoning from the size of other open-world games. Neither is a measurement. Nobody publishing those figures has seen the build, and the ones that cite a source cite each other.
We could add a fourteenth guess to that pile and it would rank perfectly well. We would rather this page be the one that says the number does not exist yet, because in November the same page will carry the real one.
The question underneath: how much space should you clear?
The only official disk figure Rockstar has ever published for a game of this generation’s scale is for a different game on a different platform: its own requirements sheet for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC asked for 150 GB of disk space. That is not a prediction for GTA 6 on a console, and we are not offering it as one; it is the one number in this subject that came from Rockstar rather than from a guess, and it tells you the order of magnitude Rockstar’s last big game occupied. If you are planning storage, plan against the space you have rather than a number someone invented. A console that is comfortably empty on 12 November is a console that pre-loads without a problem; one that is nearly full is a problem you will discover at the worst moment. That is as specific as anyone can honestly be today.
What we do not know
- The install size on PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
- Whether the three differ, and by how much.
- The size of the day-one patch, if there is one.
- How much free space is needed to install on top of the download.
- Whether the boxed copy, which contains a download code and no disc, needs anything different from a digital one. Nothing published says it does.
All of that gets answered here on 12 November, from a storefront listing rather than from a rumour, and the answer will carry the date it was read and the listing it was read from, so you can check it against your own console.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
