GTA 6, answered

Does GTA 6 run differently on Xbox Series S or PS5 Pro?

Short answer

GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the same game and editions on all four. Sony's store lists it as PS5 Pro Enhanced without numbers; Rockstar has published no console-specific figures for any of the four.

Four consoles, one game. Whether they all play it the same way is a separate question, and Rockstar has only answered part of it.

What is confirmed for all four

GTA 6 launches 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Rockstar’s own product page names the two console families and nothing else, Take-Two’s pre-order announcement of 24 June 2026 does the same, and both storefront listings, checked on 23 September 2026, carry the same two editions at the same two US prices; the platform question itself is on our consoles page. Sony’s blog post of 24 June, co-signed by Rockstar, says the game “will play best on PS5” on the strength of the DualSense controller, 3D audio and the console’s drive, which is a claim about Sony’s hardware features, not a difference in content: the Xbox release is the same day with the same editions. There is no cheaper, cut-down edition sold separately for any platform.

PS5 Pro: the one console with an official tag

The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced. That is a specification line on Sony’s listing, with no explanation, resolution or frame-rate figure attached to it, and it is Sony’s label rather than a Rockstar statement. Kotaku’s report of 27 August 2026 on a Rockstar North studio visit has Rob Nelson saying the consoles were running the game at 30 frames per second “during this development period”; whether that figure covered the Pro depends on which retelling you read. If it did, the Pro’s advantage would be stability and image quality rather than a higher frame rate, at least at launch, and that is a reading of a hedged remark rather than a fact. See our page on whether GTA 6 runs at 60fps for that report in full.

Xbox Series S: confirmed to run it, unconfirmed how

Series S is included in every official “Xbox Series X|S” listing Rockstar has published, so the console is confirmed to run the game. What Rockstar has not published is any Series S detail: resolution, draw distance, or whether the console’s smaller storage changes anything about install size, which nobody has published for any console. The Microsoft Store listing carries nothing on performance for either Xbox. The graphical trade-offs you will read about elsewhere are the pattern other big releases have shown between the two Xbox consoles, applied to this one by people who have not seen it run; none of that comes from Rockstar and it should be read as informed guessing rather than a confirmed downgrade.

The question underneath: is one of the four the wrong one to buy?

On what is published, no. All four are on the box, all four get the same game on the same day at the same price, and the only official line that separates any of them is a label with no numbers behind it. If frame rate is what you care about, nothing published gives any console 60fps, and the one reported figure is 30 on the consoles in general. If you already own one of the four, nothing published is a reason to buy another; if you are choosing, the deciding facts are the ones on the crossplay page, which console the people you play with own, because no multiplayer has been announced and Rockstar has never shipped play between PlayStation and Xbox.

What we do not know

  • Resolution or frame-rate numbers for any of the four consoles.
  • Whether Series S has a smaller install than Series X, or the same one.
  • What, specifically, the PS5 Pro Enhanced label buys in this game.
  • Whether saves or play cross between PlayStation and Xbox; see the cross-platform page.

Where this comes from

Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
