GTA 6, answered
Will GTA 6 run at 60fps?
Short answer
Not at launch, on current information. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson is reported to have told visiting content creators in August 2026 that the console builds were running at 30fps during development, with no 60fps mode confirmed for day one. Rockstar itself has published no frame-rate figure.

The honest answer is: probably not on day one, based on one reported conversation that Rockstar has neither confirmed nor disputed. Here is exactly what was said, by whom, and what it does and does not settle.
What was actually said
In August 2026 Rockstar North showed the game to a small group of content creators at the studio, hands-off. One of them, Davy Jones of the Brazilian outlet Flow Games, reported that Rob Nelson, Rockstar North’s head of development and co-studio head, said the console builds were running at 30 frames per second at that stage of development, and that Rockstar would need to consult its technical team before saying whether a 60fps option would arrive at launch or later. Kotaku carried that account on 27 August 2026, as did several other outlets, all tracing back to the same visit. Rockstar has not issued a statement confirming or disputing it.
Which consoles this covers
The report puts the 30fps figure on the consoles in general during development: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Whether the PS5 Pro was covered by the same figure depends on which retelling you read, and Rockstar has said nothing about the Pro at all. What exists on Sony’s side is a label: the PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, without any explanation, resolution or frame-rate figure on the listing. See our page on GTA 6 on Xbox Series S and PS5 Pro for what the console differences do and do not cover.
Why the ceiling, probably
Nobody outside Rockstar has published a technical breakdown of the bottleneck. Outside analysts point to the density of the world, its traffic and crowd simulation and its dynamic weather as plausible reasons a 60fps mode is hard on current console hardware, but that is analysis, not something Rockstar has confirmed. There is no PC version at launch either, which is usually where 60fps arrives first on Rockstar’s biggest titles; see GTA 6 system requirements.
What we do not know
- Whether the 30fps figure is the shipped frame rate or a development-period checkpoint.
- Resolution, ray-tracing settings or any other technical detail for any console.
- Whether a 60fps performance mode is planned for any point after launch.
- What the PS5 Pro Enhanced label means in this game, beyond the label itself.
Where this comes from
Every claim above rests on one of these. Anything marked the platform holder is Sony or Microsoft describing their own store or hardware, not Rockstar. Anything marked reported is somebody else telling us what Rockstar said, and is treated as weaker than Rockstar saying it.
