Will GTA 6 be cross-platform?

Short answer

Rockstar has said nothing about crossplay, either way. No multiplayer mode has been announced either, so at launch there is nothing to play across platforms.

There is no announcement to report either way, and that is not a dodge — it is the actual state of the record. Rockstar has never mentioned crossplay for GTA 6, and it has never announced a multiplayer mode for GTA 6 either.

Why the second half matters more than the first

Crossplay is a property of a multiplayer mode. Everything Rockstar has published about GTA 6 describes a single-player game following Jason and Lucia — the trailers, the Extended Look, the store listings. Nothing has been announced that two people on two consoles could play together.

So the honest shape of the answer is: there is no crossplay question to answer yet, because the thing that would need to be cross-platform has not been announced. See will GTA 6 have an online mode.

What the history tells you

Rockstar has never shipped crossplay in anything. GTA Online has run since 2013 without it and Red Dead Online since 2018 without it, on every platform they appeared on. That is a long, consistent record rather than a promise about GTA 6 — but if you are trying to decide which console your friends should buy, it is the most relevant fact available.

What we do not know

  • Whether GTA 6 has a multiplayer component at launch or later.
  • Whether PS5 and Xbox Series players would ever share a session.
  • Whether a future PC version would connect to console players.
  • Whether save data or progress moves between platforms. Also unannounced.

Anything you read stating that GTA 6 definitely will, or definitely will not, support crossplay is somebody’s expectation wearing a headline.
