A rifle the game names out loud. The pickup prompt in the Extended Look reads DUKE 556 ASSAULT RIFLE — and the weapon it names is out of sight.

At 25:07 the prompt sits over a body lying on its back on a carpet: the L1 button glyph, then DUKE 556 ASSAULT RIFLE in capitals, every character separating cleanly. The body wears white coveralls, dark gloves and boots, with a respirator over the face; white coveralls like those on the two armed men stepping out of a lift at 24:10.

The rifle itself is not in the frame. Nothing gun-shaped comes apart anywhere around the body, so this page can say what the weapon is called and nothing about how it looks.

Eighteen seconds after the prompt, at 25:25, the HUD carries an AR-pattern rifle outline with 27 and 48 beside it. That outline is the nearest thing in the frames we have to a picture of the weapon the prompt named, and it is not near enough: the icon is a class silhouette rather than a model, and nothing ties it to the pickup on the carpet.

Read as a name it comes apart the way GTA weapon names usually do: Duke the maker, 556 the calibre, assault rifle the class. That split is how the words are put together, not something the game states.

The prompt says more than GTA 5 ever did. There the weapon wheel and the pickups named rifles by class alone, Assault Rifle, Carbine Rifle, Advanced Rifle, and the maker was a marking on the gun rather than part of its name. Here the maker and a model number arrive with the prompt, the way they do for the Moreland 850 Shotgun at 4:27 of the same video. Two named weapons in twenty-one minutes of footage is not a catalogue, but it is a convention.

How to recognise it

  • Named by the game itself: the pickup prompt reads DUKE 556 ASSAULT RIFLE
  • L1 to pick it up
  • Extended Look, 25:07, over a body in white coveralls on a carpet
  • The weapon itself out of sight in that frame

The frame it comes from

What we still do not know

  • What the Duke 556 looks like: none of the official frames we have shows the weapon this prompt names, and the rifle outline in the HUD at 25:25 is a class icon, not a portrait
  • Whether any of the AR-pattern rifles in the material is the Duke 556. The magazine of the one Jason carries at night carries a four-character roll mark below this site’s floor for lettering, so it is not read here
  • What the smaller lines under that roll mark say
  • Magazine capacity and fire modes
  • What else Duke makes
