Baseball bat

A wooden baseball bat, held at the shoulder in a room full of grow lights. The only melee weapon in the official material.

The bat rests against the shoulder of a man in a white vest with a gold chain and a heavy ring. The grain of the wood is visible and the handle tapers conventionally. It is not being swung; it is being held the way somebody holds a bat to make a point.

The room behind him is lit in yellow-green by grow lamps, with plants along the wall. A second man stands further back, shirtless and tattooed.

Melee weapons are a series staple and this is the only one Rockstar has shown. That absence is worth stating plainly rather than filling in.

How to recognise it

• Wooden bat with visible grain, conventional taper
• Held at the shoulder, not swung
• A room lit by grow lamps, with plants along the wall
• The only melee weapon in the official material

The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the vehicle occupies 614 by 972 of it. Also in it: Port Gellhorn.

What we still do not know

• Whether there are other melee weapons
• Whether melee has its own wheel slot — the visible weapon wheel shows fists, not a bat
• Its in-game name
• Whether the grow room is a mission location or a business
