Port Gellhorn

Press pack · snt-00061 · usable frame · exterior · 3840 × 2160 px © Rockstar Games The whole frame at 3840 × 2160, scaled down to fit — never enlarged. This is a press still of the subject itself, so the whole frame is the crop and there is nothing to mark.

A run-down coastal town of trailer parks, motels and neon: the Starlet Motel, Delights Cabaret, a shed with a sign this site cannot read, and a water tower over it all.

What Rockstar says about Port Gellhorn

Rockstar calls it Leonida’s forgotten coast. Cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls will not bring the tourists back, the page says, but there is a new economy in this once-popular vacation spot, fuelled by malt liquor, painkillers and truck stop energy drinks. Its closing advice: jump on a dirt bike and hold on to your wallet.

The six frames on this page were read before that text was, and they agree with it: the motel, the cheap rooms, the bonfire with beer in hand. What the frames do not show is the shut-down attractions and the empty strip malls; nothing in the official images we have is identifiably a closed attraction. Rockstar’s own captions place five of the press screenshots in Port Gellhorn: the grow room with the two men, the motel, the woman at the car window, the club’s car park and the bonfire.

The one geographic fact in the text is the word coast. Port Gellhorn is on the sea, which the overview does not settle on its own; where on the coast, the page does not say.

Named places in Port Gellhorn

Each place below shares a frame with the town itself.

  • Starlet Motel. A mid-century roadside sign with a bulb-lit arrow and a VACANCY panel; Rockstar’s caption calls it a motel in Port Gellhorn.
  • Delights Cabaret. A strip club with pink neon and a letter board reading NEW GIRLS NEW FOOD; Rockstar’s caption calls it a club in Port Gellhorn advertising the cabaret.

What the frames show

The overview under an orange sky says the most. Single-storey buildings and trailers spread across flat ground, power lines everywhere, a water tower in the middle distance, cars on dirt. Nothing above two floors and nothing new. Two quad bikes stand on the dirt by the nearest trailer, and an aircraft high in the sky trails a contrail.

The other five fill it in. The Starlet Motel sign against a deep blue sky, VACANCY lit under it and a second MOTEL sign in orange neon on the building behind. Delights Cabaret at night with a letter board carrying three lines: NEW GIRLS NEW FOOD, OPEN ALL NIGHT, HIRING DANCERS. A grow room under yellow-green lamps with two men in it, one resting both hands on a D-shaped grip that Rockstar’s caption calls a shovel, the other standing among the plants with a bat over his shoulder. A handover through a car window, a bag of blue pills passing from a woman outside to a red-haired man inside the car. A party round a fire at night with a bottle of beer in hand.

Every place with a name in this town has its own page here, and taken together they say what the town is for in the story: cheap rooms, cheap work and nobody asking.

What we still do not know

  • Where Port Gellhorn sits relative to Vice City
  • Whether the motel and the cabaret are enterable
  • Whether the grow room is a mission location or a business
  • Whether the town has its own police
