Characters
Cal Hampton
Four official screenshots, and not one of them has a weapon in it. Cal Hampton is the character Rockstar photographs at leisure: mini golf, a pool table, a swimming pool and a night walk with Jason and two bags.
What Rockstar says about him
Rockstar’s page calls him Jason‘s friend and a fellow associate of Brian‘s, and says he feels safest at home, snooping on Coast Guard comms with a few beers and some private browser tabs open. Its one-line summary is a question: what if everything on the internet was true?
The second half of the page puts him and Jason on different paths. Cal, it says, is at the low tide of America and happy there; casual paranoia loves company, but his friend Jason has bigger plans. That is worth holding next to the night walk with the bags, the one screenshot that breaks the leisure pattern.
Rockstar’s alt text for the images on that page adds what the four stills here cannot: the man with the binoculars on Jason’s fishing boat is Cal. The caption reads, Jason is holding a fishing rod and Cal is holding binoculars up to his eyes. The pool shot is captioned as Jason and Cal playing pool, which names the man taking the shot, and the night walk as the two of them walking side by side, each holding a duffel bag.
Rockstar has not credited an actor for Cal.

In the press pack
The four shots are unusually consistent in mood. He stands on a mini golf course with an alligator sculpture, jaws open, and a crowned figure beside it behind him, a blue-gripped putter over his shoulder and his tongue out, in a green shirt printed with leaves, pink and purple flowers and alien heads, a khaki bucket hat and aviator sunglasses, while a second player in a purple vest lines up a putt behind. He watches a shot at a pool table, taken by Jason in Rockstar’s caption, in a pastel shirt with an abstract print, glasses on and a red can in his hand, with a carved sign reading Joe Shorts Blas at the top right until the edge of the frame cuts it. He floats in a swimming pool on a pink flamingo ring in a backwards yellow cap and sunglasses, a can in his hand and three more floating around him, one of them lettered FIZZAZZ, with an ashtray on a pink float. And he walks at night alongside Jason Duval, a white duffel in his hand and Jason’s dark bag over Jason’s shoulder.
Two of the four also have an activity page here, mini golf and pool, and the flamingo ring in the swimming pool makes a third. Nobody in any of them holds a weapon. The mood is on his clothes as much as his face. The night-walk tee reads VIOLENCE IS COOL! over a cartoon of a girl with a controller at a television, and THANKS, VIDEOGAME’S under it, apostrophe and all; the cap he wears with it has its own print.
The fourth shot is the one that hints at something else. It is dark, the two of them are carrying bags, and neither is dressed for a night out. They are walking away from a boat shed with the big lit letters of a sign above it and a board on the wall to the right that begins with Brian’s, which puts the walk at Brian’s Boat Works & Marina. What the bags are about, the frames we have do not say.
The Extended Look puts him on the water. At 26:14 a man in a navy shirt printed with red and white flowers, the same yellow cap on backwards as in the pool and glasses on, stands in the cockpit of the Lürepredator L35P with fishing rods upright behind him. The whole frame, with Jason and a woman in an orange top on the same boat, and Rockstar’s fishing shot, where the man with the binoculars wears that navy floral shirt, are on the fishing page. The frame carries no name. Rockstar’s caption for the fishing shot names the man with the binoculars as Cal, and this page counts the man at 26:14 as him on the shirt, the cap and that caption, which is a match of clothes and not a reading.
What the screenshots show
- Named by Rockstar's own press pack: People/Cal Hampton
- A bucket hat and a floral shirt in the mini golf shot; a backwards cap in the pool, a printed cap at night, no hat at the table
- Glasses at the table and at night, sunglasses on the course and in the pool
- No weapon in any of his four official screenshots
- Photographed at three separate leisure activities
- Walks with Jason Duval at night, both carrying bags, past a board that begins with Brian's
- In a navy floral shirt and a yellow cap on backwards on the Lürepredator at 26:14 of the Extended Look, counted as him on those clothes and on Rockstar's caption of its fishing shot, not on a name in frame
The frame it comes from
The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the subject occupies 3840 by 2160 of it.
How this was measured

| Image check | 25 September 2026 — crop checked against the frame |
| Text check | 28 September 2026 — 68 claims read against the image, 9 corrected |

These figures come from the dataset, not from the prose above. We measure everything and claim what counts. How we work
What we still do not know
- What he and Jason are carrying in the night shot
- How far he follows Jason’s bigger plans, and whether the player decides that
- Whether he is a friend you can call, in the way GTA V handled its side characters
- Who plays him: Rockstar has not credited the cast
A note on this record
Rebuilt on 22 September 2026 against the 4K stills, with a reading record on all four crops. The recheck of the same morning had already put the hat right: the bucket hat and the floral shirt are in one shot, not more. Nothing else failed. What is new is what the crops carry: the crowned alligator, the alien heads in the shirt print, the lettering on the night-walk tee, the cans in the pool, and the board beginning with Brian's that puts the night walk at the marina. Checked again on 25 September 2026 at 1:1, and the quotes laid against Rockstar's page once more. The crown on the mini golf course sits on a figure beside the alligator, not on the alligator. The tee reads THANKS, VIDEOGAME'S, with a comma and an apostrophe the page had dropped. The fourth still is not on the going-out page and the page itself says it is no night out, so that pairing went. The comparison with Rockstar's fishing shot, Jason and the woman at 26:14 are outside this page's crops and now sit in the link to the fishing page, which shows both whole; the rods stand behind him, not behind the console. And a caption quoted here about two men looking their way belongs to a bar shot that is not one of these four, so it went.
Every frame we have
Also in these frames
Measured in the same frames as the images above, but without a page of their own. Same rule as everywhere else: what the crop carries, with the source and the timecode. The ones whose frame no page shows are collected in the frame.
