Cal Hampton

Four official screenshots, and not one of them has a weapon in it. Cal Hampton is the character Rockstar photographs at leisure: mini golf, a pool table, a swimming pool and a night out.

The four shots are unusually consistent in mood. He stands on a mini golf course with an alligator sculpture behind him, a club over his shoulder, in a green floral shirt and a bucket hat. He watches a shot at a pool table in a pastel shirt. He floats in a swimming pool on a pink flamingo ring with cans and an ashtray drifting around him. And he walks at night alongside Jason Duval, both of them carrying a bag.

Three of the four are activities that also have their own page here – mini golf, pool and, in the fourth, going out. That is not a coincidence of our filing: the press pack uses him to show what the world does when nobody is shooting.

The fourth shot is the one that hints at something else. It is dark, the two of them are carrying bags, and neither is dressed for a night out. What that is about, the material does not say.

What we still do not know

• What he and Jason are carrying in the night shot
• How he connects to the story, if at all
• Whether he is a friend you can call, in the way GTA V handled its side characters
• His voice actor, and whether the name is spoken in the game
