Fishing
Fishing is in GTA 6, and Rockstar has shown it three times: a rod and reel over the side of a boat, a rod against the sky, and an angler holding up a catch.
The clearest image is a 4K press screenshot. Jason stands at the stern of a boat with a spinning rod, the reel visible on the underside and the line running out over the transom. He is in a white long-sleeved top and mirrored sunglasses; beside him a second man in a floral shirt watches the water through binoculars. The boat has a hardtop and rod holders.
Two more frames add pieces. One shows a rod and reel held up against the sky. Another shows somebody holding a fish they have caught. Between them the material covers the three moments a fishing system needs: cast, wait, land.
What none of them shows is an interface. There is no meter, no tension bar, no prompt in any of the three frames, so whether this is a minigame with a struggle mechanic or a simpler animation is not something we can answer from the images.
How to recognise it
- A spinning rod and reel, used from the stern of a boat
- A hardtop boat with rod holders
- A second figure with binoculars, watching the water
- A separate frame of an angler holding a catch
- No interface visible in any of the three frames
The frame it comes from
The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the vehicle occupies 3840 by 2160 of it. Also in it: Jason Duval.
What we still do not know
- Whether there is a struggle mechanic with a meter
- Whether fish can be sold, and to whom
- Whether fishing works from shore as well as from a boat
- Whether a licence or a specific rod is needed
