Off-road racing

Off-road racing
Press pack · snt-00081 · usable frame

Dirt bikes and quads racing through mud past abandoned grain silos covered in graffiti, with a derailed freight train lying beside the track.

The press screenshot is taken from inside the pack. The nearest rider is up out of the saddle on a dirt bike, mud sprayed up the number board, goggles down. Another rider is airborne behind and to the left. A quad runs wide on the right. The ground is churned and wet.

The backdrop is the part worth keeping: a row of concrete grain silos, every surface tagged, with a freight train off its rails at the foot of them. That is a set piece, not scenery — somebody built a race course around an industrial ruin.

It is in Mount Kalaga National Park, which also holds the hunting, the kayaking and the mountain road. The same region carries four different things to do.

How to recognise it

  • Dirt bikes and quads in the same race
  • Riders standing on the pegs, mud on the number boards
  • Abandoned grain silos covered in graffiti
  • A derailed freight train at the foot of the silos
  • In Mount Kalaga National Park

The frame it comes from

The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the vehicle occupies 3840 by 2160 of it. Also in it: Mount Kalaga National Park, an enduro dirt bike, Dinka Enduro, and a quad bike.

What we still do not know

  • Whether off-road races are a repeatable event
  • Whether bikes and quads race in the same class
  • Whether the silos are enterable
  • How many off-road courses there are
