Rear of a car transporter

The back end of a flatbed deck with a car on it: a bare steel crossmember and a row of round lamps. The cab is around the front and out of the shot.

A rear crossmember in bare pale metal, running the full width of the crop with a raised lip along its top edge. Set into it, right of centre, is a recessed panel carrying three round lamps in a row: the left two are lit red and the third is dark. Left of that panel, on the crossmember itself, is a single round fitting with a glass face, and between them a square recess cut into the beam – a step, at the height you would use it as one.

Above the crossmember the underside of the deck runs back into the dark, with a strip of light along its edge. On the deck, and lighting this whole frame red, is the car being carried: only its lower body is inside the crop, but its paint is what turns the metal pink on the left. Below the crossmember the deck's frame members and what look like ramp rails drop away in shadow.

A forearm and shoulder cross the left of the frame – somebody is climbing onto the deck – and behind, out of focus, is the neon of a night street. The vehicle is standing still.

How to recognise it

• Bare pale-metal rear crossmember with a raised top lip, not a car bumper
• Three round lamps in a recessed panel, two lit red and one dark
• A round glass-faced fitting on the beam, and a square step recess beside it
• A flat deck above, with no stake rails or dropsides
• A red coupe standing on that deck, above this crop in the same frame, which is what makes it a transporter rather than a flatbed

• Whether the deck tilts or slides, which is what would separate a car transporter from a plain flatbed
• How many cars it takes. One is on it here, and the crop ends before the deck does.
• Everything measured: top speed, handling, where it spawns
