The Vice City sign
Giant letters spelling VICE CITY stand against a sunset with a business jet passing low over them. It is the establishing shot of the whole game.
The letters are structures, not a sign: weathered concrete or steel, several storeys tall, standing in a row on open ground with scaffolding-like bracing visible behind them. The sun is setting directly behind and the light comes through the gaps between letters.
A twin-engine business jet crosses the frame above them with its landing gear up, close enough to read the shape of the airframe.
Whether this is a monument, a film-set relic or an airport marker, the image does not say. What it does is give the city an icon that is not a skyline, which is what the VICE letters elsewhere in the material do too.
How to recognise it
- Letters several storeys tall, built as structures
- Weathered concrete or steel, with bracing behind
- Backlit by a low sun
- A business jet crossing low overhead
The frame it comes from
The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the subject occupies 3840 by 1512 of it. Also in it: Vice City, Buckingham Shamal, and Buckingham Shamal.
What we still do not know
- What the letters are for
- Where in the map they stand
- Whether they can be climbed or entered
- Whether they relate to the separate VICE letters monument
