The Rusty Anchor

The building is timber, raised on a deck, with a pitched roof and a railed veranda running the width of it. The name is on a long board above the roofline: THE RUSTY ANCHOR, with an anchor between the words.

The deck is full — people standing at the rail, sitting at picnic tables, one person lying face down on a bench. A banner across the front advertises a crab festival. Bottles stand on the tables in front.

This is the social centre of the Keys material: more people in one frame than anywhere else on the islands.
