The elevated metro

An elevated railway on concrete piers running above the street, with the skyline behind — proof that Vice City has a metro.

The structure is a concrete guideway carried on a line of piers, crossing above the road and continuing towards the towers. It is the shape of a light metro rather than a heavy freight line: a single elevated deck with a barrier along each side.

The piers underneath are painted, one design each, which links it to the mural district.

Public transport is not a given in the series. GTA IV had a subway; GTA V had a limited line. An elevated metro through the middle of the city is worth recording as a feature rather than as scenery.

How to recognise it

  • A concrete elevated guideway on a line of piers
  • Crossing above a street and running towards the towers
  • A single deck with a barrier each side — light metro rather than freight
  • Painted piers beneath

  • Whether the metro is rideable
  • Whether it has stations you can enter
  • Where the line runs
  • Whether it is the same rail the freight train uses elsewhere
