It is delivered inside a 3840 × 2160 container and we have trimmed the letterbox, which is packaging rather than picture. The box marks the crop exactly as we measured it, and that crop is the detail alongside, at its true size.

DOMINION HOTEL in one line of channel letters across a pale art deco facade in Trailer 2, the whole name in the crop, with the pole of a street sign standing in front of the first O.

The name runs in one line along a band under the upper windows: DOMINION HOTEL in sans-serif channel letters with depth, their sides dark and a pinkish-red tube with a pale core running along each stroke. The crop takes the whole line. We see the facade at an angle, so the line climbs a little from left to right and the letters grow from the D towards the L. The pole of a street sign stands in front of the first O; the two sides of the letter show on either side of it.

Above the name the facade is pale and banded. On the left, curved ledges run over windows of many small panes; in the middle a tall pier in a speckled pink finish rises with fluted edges; to the right are more multi-paned windows, with a curved ledge over the one at the top right. A band in the same speckled pink runs under the upper windows. Behind the glass the windows show horizontal slats, and nothing hangs over them: there are no awnings.

In front of the building, at the left, two yellow signs are fixed to the pole: a diamond with a walking figure and, under it, a plate with an arrow pointing down to the right. At the bottom left the head and shoulder of a person come into the crop, and at the bottom right the edge of a pink parasol.

The same frame has pages of its own for the red four-door in the street below the hotel terrace, a blue two-seater further along the kerb and a silver coupe with a fixed roof beyond it.

What we still do not know

  • Whether it is enterable
  • Whether the tubes on the letters light up
  • Where it sits relative to the Ocean View and the Valetta
  • Whether hotels serve any function beyond scenery
  • Whether the name appears elsewhere
