What the advert shows

The one appearance is at the right of the Prairie Sandwich Box Meal advert that fills the frame at 7:58 in the Extended Look, where the mug makes up the meal with the sandwich and a cup of Lasso Fries. In this crop a heavy glass mug of dark brown root beer stands behind the sandwich, whose folded slices and a drape of yellow cheese cover its lower left. It is filled to the brim, with a thick cream-coloured head heaped above the rim and running down the right-hand side, and gold flecks of bubbles show in the dark liquid. The glass is moulded in tall panels with rounded ends and sits on a thick clear base.

A hexagonal label sits on the glass, purple at the top and browner towards the bottom, inside a thin gold border. BrownStein’s runs across it in a blackletter script, with Root Beer in the same lettering below and to the left. Above the name, beside an oval portrait of a man’s head and shoulders, two small lines sit under this site’s letter floor, and so does a third, smaller line above them; a sprig of green leaves sits beside the portrait. At the lower right a round device, a cream ring with green leaves either side, holds a small illustration that does not resolve. The label sits a little behind the plane of focus, so it reads but is not sharp.

The mug is not shown on its own anywhere else in the material we hold. That is enough for the name and no more: the label says what the drink is called, not who sells it or where.

What we still do not know

  • Whether BrownStein’s is sold anywhere in the game outside this advert.
  • What the round device at the lower right of the label shows.
  • What the small lines beside the portrait and above them say: all three sit under this site’s letter floor.
