Mount Kalaga National Park
The high ground: a red rock canyon with a highway through it, pine forest with deer and a panther in it, and a river you can kayak.
The six screenshots cover a full range of terrain. A canyon of red and grey rock with a two-lane highway threading through the bottom and a viaduct crossing overhead, a line of motorcycles running along it. A pine forest where two hunters walk through waist-high grass. A slow river with a truss bridge and a water gauge, a kayak mid-stroke.
The wildlife shot is the one to look at twice: four deer at a drinking spot, one lying down, and a panther walking through the shallow water towards them. That is a predator and prey modelled in the same frame rather than as separate props.
And there is industry in the park too — abandoned grain silos covered in graffiti with a derailed freight train at their feet, used as the backdrop for an off-road race.
How to recognise it
- A red rock canyon with a highway and a viaduct over it
- Pine forest, and hunters in it
- Deer and a panther modelled in the same frame
- A river with a truss bridge and a numbered water gauge
- Abandoned graffitied grain silos with a derailed freight train
The frame it comes from
The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the vehicle occupies 3840 by 2160 of it. Also in it: a tanker truck and an unidentified motorcycle.
What we still do not know
- How high the terrain goes
- Which animals are huntable and which are hazards
- Whether the silos and the train are enterable
- Whether the park has ranger or law enforcement of its own
