Fishing
Fishing is in GTA 6. Rockstar's press pack shows Jason with a spinning rod on the deck of a hardtop boat and a second man beside him with binoculars; the Extended Look shows three rods out on an open boat at 25:50, one man holding up a fish, and the same boat 24 seconds later with the rods stowed. No interface shows in any of them.
The image is a 4K press screenshot from the Jason Duval set. Jason stands on the deck of a white hardtop boat with a spinning rod in both hands, the reel hanging under the rod and the line running up and out of frame from the tip. He is in a white long-sleeved top and mirrored blue sunglasses, hair blown back. Beside him a heavier man in a floral shirt and a backwards cap watches the water through binoculars. Behind them the water is turquoise, a low shore with houses and palms runs across the background, birds are in the sky, and a second boat sits far off to the right.
At 25:50 the Extended Look shows the fishing itself. An open boat with twin outboards sits on turquoise water off a wooded shore, and three people on it have rods. Jason, in a white printed vest, camouflage shorts and a cap on backwards, stands aft of the console with his rod upright and a hand at the reel, a taut line slanting down from it across the hull. Further forward the man in the floral shirt and yellow cap holds up a silver fish with a forked tail beside his rod, and next to him a woman with her dark hair in a ponytail, an orange top and denim shorts holds a rod of her own upright. The boat has its own page, where the hull reads L35P.
At 26:14, about 24 seconds later, the camera is inside the same boat. The man in the floral shirt, glasses on and the yellow cap on backwards, stands beside the console, turned towards the other two; Jason, in a white vest printed LEONIDA and a black cap on backwards, stands behind the woman in the orange top, bent towards her with an arm reaching round behind her, while she holds a bottle. Two rods stand upright behind the man, birds hang in the sky, a wooded island sits on the water behind and a low skyline shows at the far left. The console carries a speaker grille and a sticker reading BORN TO FISH over a smaller line, and its hatch three more: one cut off by the man’s arm, a green emblem in a red and white ring, and FISH WANT ME over a second smaller line; both smaller lines sit under this site’s floor for lettering. The nearer seat back is embossed 35P with a hand over the character before it. Rockstar’s caption on the press shot names the man with the binoculars as Cal; here he is in the same shirt and cap, and the frame itself names nobody. Nobody is fishing in this frame: the rods are stowed.
None of the three frames shows an interface. There is no meter, no tension bar and no prompt, so whether this is a minigame with a struggle mechanic or a simpler animation is not something the images can answer. The press shot shows the cast, or the wait; at 25:50 a fish is already out of the water, and how it got there is not shown.
Grand Theft Auto V had no fishing with a rod, only harpoon or knife fishing under water by the GTA Wiki’s account, so a rod on a boat is new to the series rather than a return, and the open question is how much of it there is.
How to recognise it
- A spinning rod and reel, held two-handed on the deck of a hardtop boat
- Jason in a white long-sleeved top and mirrored sunglasses
- A second figure with binoculars, watching the water
- Turquoise water and a low, built-up shore behind
- No interface visible on the screen
- Three rods out on an open boat at 25:50, and a silver fish held up by the man in the floral shirt
- Two rods standing upright at 26:14, stickers on the console, 35P embossed on a seat back
- The man with the binoculars in the same floral shirt and yellow cap at 25:50 and 26:14
The frame it comes from
The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the subject occupies 3840 by 2160 of it. Also in it: Jason Duval.
How this was measured
| Source | Press pack |
|---|---|
| Frame | 3840 × 2160 |
| Crop | 3840 × 2160 — the whole frame |
| Image check | 25 September 2026 — crop checked against the frame |
| Text check | 27 September 2026 — 45 claims read against the image, 6 corrected |
| Read at | the true pixel grid, 1:1 |
| Lettering | Letter height | Contrast | Reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| LEONIDA | 45 px | — | every character |
| the label on the bottle in the woman's hand | 8 px | — | no |
| 35P | 30 px | — | every character |
| BORN TO FISH | 22 px | — | every character |
| the white line on the black band under BORN TO FISH | 13 px | — | no |
| FISH WANT ME | 26 px | — | every character |
| the line under FISH WANT ME | 19 px | — | no |
These figures come from the dataset, not from the prose above. We measure everything and claim what counts. How we work
What we still do not know
- Whether there is a struggle mechanic with a meter
- Whether fish can be sold, and to whom
- Whether fishing works from shore as well as from a boat
- Whether a licence or a specific rod is needed
A note on this record
Until 22 September 2026 this page put rod holders on the press-shot boat and Jason at the stern with the line over the transom; neither is in that frame. On 25 September 2026 the 25:50 frame from the gallery went into the text, and the boat at 26:14 is no longer called under way, because nothing in that frame shows it moving.
Every frame we have
Also in these frames
Measured in the same frames as the images above, but without a page of their own. Same rule as everywhere else: what the crop carries, with the source and the timecode. The ones whose frame no page shows are collected in the frame.
