An orange soft drink that turns up once in Rockstar's material, a can in a swimming pool, at a size where the whole wordmark reads.

The one appearance is a press screenshot of a tiled pool, in the third Cal Hampton still. A can lies aslant on the water with a crown of spray at its top end; Rockstar’s caption for the shot has the cans in it floating. It is large for a prop, large enough that the wordmark and the artwork around it read, and the measurements are on the sighting record.

The can is amber, darker at the edges and bright down the middle where the light runs along it, with the bare silver metal rim showing at the top and the bottom. Over the amber sits a polygon outlined in white, and across the polygon FIZZAZZ runs in heavy navy capitals on a slight upward slant: seven letters, with a tittle kept over the I. A pale green leaf on a stem leans in above the word. Below the word and to the left, a green ribbon carries a short word in white. At the lower right an orange slice is drawn in outline with its segments marked. Around the foot of the can a line of small dark print runs into the curve and does not resolve.

The word on the green ribbon does not read, and neither does the small print at the foot. Its lettering sits at about half the height this site reads at, and the characters run together into one mass. A ribbon in that position on a can carries the flavour, and with amber livery and an orange slice drawn beside it, ORANGE is the easiest word to see there. That is exactly why it is not printed here as a reading: it is our own guess, recorded as one on the sighting, and the objection to it is that the surrounding artwork supplies the answer before the eye does.

We looked for the brand, by its colours, across every other frame we held when this page was written: a saturated amber field with navy elements and a white outline, anywhere below the top of the frame. The candidates that search returned were checked one by one, and the only frame carrying Fizzazz is this can. The same search does find this can, which is what makes the negative worth something, though it would miss the mark in deep shadow, at a sharp angle, or in another flavour’s colours. Frames added since then have not been through that search.

Two soft drinks, and only one of them has a name. The other is on the red box lorry in the Extended Look, whose yellow panel reads THE FIZZ on its lower line under a smaller line that does not separate, and which carries a script lower-case e on the cab door and on the refrigeration unit. A strapline and a single letter are a slogan and a mark, not a name, and the obvious completion of the upper line is not evidence. So the lorry’s drink has no page: it stays a sighting on the lorry’s own record until a word turns up beside that e. Fizzazz has a page because its name is on the can in full.

How to recognise it

  • FIZZAZZ in heavy navy capitals, slanted, with a tittle over the I
  • A white-outlined polygon behind the wordmark on an amber can
  • A pale green leaf on a stem leaning in above the word
  • A green ribbon beneath the word carrying a short word we cannot read
  • An orange slice drawn in outline at the lower right
  • Bare silver metal rim showing at the top and bottom of the can

The frame it comes from

The frame is a still from the official Press pack, which carries no timecode. It is 3840 by 2160, and the subject occupies 422 by 367 of it. Also in it: Cal Hampton.

What we still do not know

  • The word on the green ribbon. It is almost certainly the flavour, and our reading of it is not good enough to print.
  • Whether there are other flavours. Another flavour would mean another can colour, which is what our search across the frames was built to find and would therefore miss.
  • Whether the brand is buyable, drinkable, or only set dressing
  • Whether it appears on a vending machine, a shop front or a billboard anywhere on the map
  • Whether the drink on the red box lorry is this brand under a second mark or a rival
