GTA Playbook

Cookie statement

If you are reading this site without logging in, you are not given a cookie. There is no banner because there is nothing to consent to.

This is unusual enough to be worth explaining, so here is the full accounting.

Cookies a visitor receives

None. This site runs no analytics, no advertising, no embedded players and no social widgets, and those are what place cookies on almost every other site you visit. The typefaces are served from our own server rather than from Google, so reading a page here does not cause a request to any third party at all.

Cookies an editor receives

The site runs on WordPress. When someone from the editorial side logs in to make a change, WordPress sets the session cookies it needs in order to know who is logged in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. These are strictly functional, they are set only after a deliberate login, and they never reach an ordinary reader.

Local storage

Two things, and only if you use them. The completion checklist on the collectibles page remembers which boxes you have ticked, so that the list is still yours when you come back; it is written to your browser’s local storage the first time you tick a box, under a single key, and it holds nothing but those ticks. The countdown page remembers the store region you pick from its list, under one key, so that the timer opens on your region next time. Neither ever leaves your browser: nothing is sent to us, and we cannot see it. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes both, and the reset button on the collectibles page removes the ticks. Nothing else on this site writes to local storage, and session storage is never used.

If that changes

Adding anything that sets a cookie for readers — analytics, an embedded video, a newsletter sign-up that remembers you — would mean a consent banner and a rewrite of this page. We would rather keep the page as it is.
